I think we're going to make the switch to Sprint (I'm not really happy about it, but I get my phone through Joe's office, so I don't really get a say)... I'm really happy with Verizon and have been holding out for them to get the IPhone. Now just as it looks like it might happen I've switched my obsession to the Droid, after getting to mess around with a friend's for a bit.
I have a touchscreen Blackberry. The Storm, I think? Idk, a friend sent it to me when my last phone broke. I will never be able to go back to anything less, but I'm dying to upgrade. I love my Blackberry, I'd just like to be porting over to the Android software since I like the app availability a bit more than what's available on the Blackberry. For what I *need,* my phone does a great job. For what I *want* I wouldn't mind switching.
I'm thinking that you probably aren't intersted in the package I have but I'll answer anyway
I have a tracfone prepaid, costs me around $100 for 365 days of service and 450 minutes (plus usually I find a few coupon codes each year when I top it up and it doubles my minutes and such) . I generally don't use my phone though apart for emergencies. The minutes I have are enough to call England for about an hour every week and still have some left to roll over the year after. The phone isn't much to talk about but seriously it is perfect for what I need it for. Plus when I hear about people paying $100 a month for their phone it makes me pretty happy that I'm not doing that.
We have Sprint. I love it. I am getting a new phone soon. Doug just got the Palm Pre and I love it. It's about a year old though and off the website so I'm guessing a newer version is coming out soon. I want either that phone or something like it - it's touch screen with a separate keyboard. It's windows based operating system (I think) and I like it a lot. You can get a whole bunch of the apps like on the other phones and it is a really friendly interface.
I have T*Mobile and I LOVE them. For what other people's service is like, I get better. I don't have a data plan because I can't justify paying for what comes down to two separate internet services. That's just ridiculous. I have my laptop and my iPod- both of which are connected to wifi. I don't need a phone to do the same. But that's my opinion.
My phone is nothing to smile about. I want to upgrade but I'm not eligible for one next year- however a chick @ church has an HTC something or other from the same carrier that she's giving me when she upgrades. Suh-weet!
Of all the price comparison I've done- for what I have with T*Mobile- which is the prepaid plan because honestly, I don't use my phone enough to really justify a contract type situation- T*Mobile was and is the cheapest bang for the buck.
We love verizon. I have a shitty second phone, but rich has the new smart phone with verizon. He loves it! It is like the iPhone, but he says better. I will not switch from verizon.
As far as service goes I would check with people in your area. Depending on where we've lived or visited service has been better or worse with the provider. We've stuck with sprit because the coverage has always been the best for where we live and we got in on a really good plan (29.99 for 500 minutes, unlimited text and internet) and will stay with that plan.
Love verizon. I have the cheapest phone I can get. I just talk on it so the basic works fine for me. My DH is all over the US and we have no problem with coverage.

ITTTTTTA with this. Verizon is king in our area by a looooong shot, but I know people who say AT&T is better for their area.
That said, I have verizon and as long as we are in this area, I will never switch. I have a Droid2, and I like it a lot. It can be a little glitchy at times, and honestly, I still haven't figured out all of the features. But it is a great phone.
They say iPhones are coming to verizon in January. IDT it is confirmed, but Bill said even he heard it from reliable places-so who knows. They will likely get it soon. So if you like verizon and like the iPhone, I would say hold out a while.
The smart phones are pricey though-my data plan is an extra $30/month. Sucks. But that is the way it is with those phones!!!
I used to have a LG phone and it was nice too-I never had a problem with it-it was also a touch screen.
We have Verizon and like it a lot! I get a 22% discount through my work which is huge. I have the Samsung Fascinate which I adore. Leah i'm with you, after my blackberry I could never do a regular phone again.
We're with AT&T. Just always have been. Mark has an iPhone (LOVE it) and I have a crappy old flip phone.
Whatever you choose, my brother swears by Best Buy Mobile. No mail in rebates they just give you the discount right then and there. They also seem to have the best prices.

I didn't know this until recently. They do something here called Free Phone Friday and it is a different deal each week. I would definitely check it out to avoid the mail in rebate hassles.

thanks everyone!
so is this at Best Buy or is the name just simliar? I will need to look into that. I need to figure out if the penalty for canceling my plan is less than the amount I would save by switching. Off to do research.

It's at Best Buy. I would look for any loophole to get out of your contract without a fee. Look at some websites like slickdeals.net - they post things like that.
Alyssa, if your are interested in an iphone but not interested in paying for the data packages required for a smart phone, look at the iTouch. The new one is pretty awesome. I think it even has a camera.
This way, you get all the benefits of the iphone (except for the phone part) (benefits = angry birds, lmao), you use wireless and pay no data plan. You can put all your music on it, watch movies or tv shows, browse the internet etc.
Then you just keep your regular cell phone plan with a simpler cell phone.
And when Jolynn makes a MS iphone app, you can still use it. :)

I am hijacking, lol. Sorry Slick.
Do you need wifi access with the iTouch? I have been thinking of getting one forever, but never was sure if I would really want to do it. I debate about the iPhone because while I have had the same iPods for years with zero problems, I have had to switch phones pretty much every two years. And some were on their last leg by the time I upgraded. So I would hate to invest in an iPhone if I were just going to have to upgrade it in a year or two. I assume by having an iTouch, you would avoid any issues like that.
And I HATE paying the data charge. I am in it for a year, but since I am the primary on the account, I can get rid of it in a years time rather than 2. If I go the iTouch route, I think I would back off with the cell plan and just keep texting-which you can get for as little as $5/month.
Just not sure how easy it would be to have wifi everywhere, kwim? I have never had to deal with that.
