I was wondering if any of you were making a special halloween dinner his year, I vaguely remember mention of this in past years. I just did a quick google and found it a little overwhelming.
We usually go to my parents to tot and do something simple like chili or pizza. We do not have a special Halloween dinner. The kids are to excited to even care about dinner.
But for lunch we usually make mummy dogs - which I have a picture of somewhere, but it's basically hot dogs in cresant rolls (Pigs in a blanket, mega sized) but I roll the dough out, and cut it into thin strips instead of using the triangles, and then just bake as normal... I've seen some really cute Halloween meatloaves, but Hannah would rather die than have her food touch, lol.
Anyways, not impressive, but kid friendly and easy.
we started hosting a "spooky dinner" the year connor was 2. we usually have a couple of the kids cousins over for tot'ing so it is just us and another family, plus whoever stops by to see the kids costumes.
i started doing it after working with a woman who did it starting when her kids were little...i met her when her kids were in college and she said their friends still requested it every year so there she was with a bunch of 18-21 year old making a halloween dinner every year...i thought that was too cute.
anyways, i have done a bunch of different things over the years. it is really simple at this age to add gummy worms and food coloring, etc to whatever you eat that night to make it special, so if you aren't up to doing much that would probably be enough!
here is what we will be having this year:
rotten apple punch (recipe off family fun website)...basically it is apple cider and gummy worms.
ice cubes with gummy eyeballs frozen in them. you should be able to find the eyeballs with the other gummy halloween candy.
popcorn hands...popcorn in a glove with candy corn "nails" (make sure the popcorn isn't hot or the plastic will melt;) been there, done that and its not pretty.
hot dog mummies...hot dogs wrapped in crescent rolls.
mummy pizza... homemade pizza with mozzarella strips wrapped to make it look like a mummy. use olives for eyes. you can also do this with english muffins.
