Your kids and cleanliness (or personal hygiene)--
Permalink

Do your kids fight you constantly about getting clean?

Henry HATES to shower or bathe, he rarely gets shampoo within 10 feet of his hair, he argues about deodorant, he runs away from me when I go to hand him a washcloth (or wipe) for his face, and he refuses to brush his teeth in the mornings before school.

It's driving me CRAZY.

I had to have a talk with him last night about how I didn't want him to be known as "The Stinky Kid." He said he didn't care so I told him I didn't want to be known as "The Mom of the Stinky Kid."

I've heard horrid personal hygiene is typical of 10-year-old boys but I still hate it.

Mark loves baths and deodorant. And brushing his teeth. And washing his hair. I hope he doesn't outgrow that.

My DS is 16 and is still bad about taking a shower. I was hoping once he got interested in girls this would change but that didn't happen.

I covered my ears and eyes and am pretending I didn't just read that.

I would say DS1 was probably the same way when he was Henry's age. I remember having to poke my head in the shower and scrub that boys head!!

He is 14 now and is much better (and actually has been for probably 2+ years). He gets up on his own every morning with his alarm clock and showers, brushes his teeth, deoderant, dresses, makes his own breakfast. He does all of this so much better if we don't interfere!

Hang in there Robin, it's a phase albeit a stinky, frustrating one!!

5th grade boys definitely need deodorant. Mark doesn't need it but he likes to wear it because Henry wears it.

I was just having this conversation last night.

Danielle hates showering, and there are days she refuses to even change her undies and socks. I did laundry, and folded 13 pairs of undies for Juliette, and 2 for Danielle.

I bought her all the scents she likes, new undies, awesome fancy young people deoderant, all to no avail.

I have used the "you don't want to be the stinky kid" argument, but she doesn't seem to give a rip.

So I have resorted to taking things away until she has showered.

I so super hope she grows out of this!

But ita, Juliette is hyper-clean. Loves brushing teeth, changes unders twice a day (at least), and would take a bath every night if I let her.

Doesn't matter the sex, girls and boys around this age are the same way. Usually lasts from 10-12 but can def go longer particularly in boys LOL (Travis is almost 13 and I bet he showered once a week all summer unless I sent him home and told him he couldn't back untilhe was clean and used deoderant)
