Calling all amateur decorators...

So, it's time to put some life into my boring bedroom and I'm open for lots of suggestions.

I definitely want to paint the walls but have no idea what color to use.

Basically I have light gold silk curtains that I'm not going to change so I have to work around those.

I'd really like to get a white, light blue and brown comforter but it'll have to have a bit of gold in it too I suppose. So that's going to be a challange to find but even if I do, what color do I paint the walls?

But...I'm not totally set on that. If you've seen any other duvet covers or comforters that you think are cool and would go with the gold curtains, I'm totally up for suggestions.

I will say that I have fairly masculine taste. Right now we have maroon and gold bedding.

OK please help.

Now looking online at bedding I realize that I have to take into account that my bed frame is light Mexican pine.

I'd like to change that but probably not going to happen soon.

So, I don't think the blue white and brown would look good with that.

hmmmm

Check out Frontgate.  They use those colors primarily you are talking about and have beautiful products.  Don't forget to check out the sale stuff in the outlet center too online.

Let me see if I can think of anything else. :)

What about anything green? It'd go with the gold curtains and light pine and you've got a range of options from almost black to very pale sage green or something like that. Idk. That's just the first thing that popped into my head.

I am not sure what you are looking for but here are a few options

This would go and you could paint your room a really pale cool blue and then paint very sheer stripes with a gold sheen on one wall
http://www.potterybarn.com/products/roman-stripe-duvet-cover-sham-blue/?pkey=cstriped-duvet-covers-shams

or the same with this one
http://www.potterybarn.com/products/cole-stripe-silk-duvet-cover-sham-dark-porcelain-blue/?pkey=cstriped-duvet-covers-shams

This one in Hudson

This would great with your walls painted a shade of the blue
http://www.crateandbarrel.com/bed-and-bath/all-decorative-bedding/angle-king-quilt/s643231

This might work
http://www.kohls.com/kohlsStore/bedandbath/duvets/PRD~c13560/City+Scene+Shadow+Play+Duvet+Set.jsp

If your furniture is fairly substantial this one would be a good choice blance wise
http://www.kohls.com/kohlsStore/bedandbath/comfortersbedspreads/sets/PRD~c16162/Brody+8pc+Reversible+Dot+Bed+Set.jsp

Do you have carpet or some other type of floor covering? That can make a difference too.

i'd do green/olive tones with gold curtains, and you can always just do gold throwpillows on the bed and not worry too much about having gold in the actual pattern.
pottery barn has great olives and greens in their catalogs and they tell you which benjamin moore shade it is.

Thanks for all the feedback.

Our room in our first condo was green and I loved it.

I think I'm going to run with that one.
