How are the kids doing who are waiting until next year for K? Are they going to any kind of preK now? What are the hours? Do they like it? Do they have any friends that have gone to K? Are they ok with it? Are they in any activities like dancing, karate, that kind of thing?

Koda and Tristen's orientation is tomorrow and then regular class starts Thursday.  They are only in Tues/Thurs this year, but several of the kids from last year are the same - going from everyday or MWF to T/Th.  To keep the school open the hiked the rates, so families are feeling it.

Koda is excited, as is Tristen.  We have no public preK here, so there would only be a handful of kids at most from last year that would even be in local K.  I would say at least half a dozen school districts receive our kids.  Many drive 20-30 minutes to get here since it is a more popular preK program.

We'll see how Koda feels when we meet the kids tomorrow.  I'm not sure how many went and how many are returning, and of that, exactly who is in T/Th.  My sense last year was that most of the 5 year olds were girls in May.

Koda will do fall soccer, Tristen it too young still.

We are beginning a K curriculum at home with both kiddos as well.

When I see the monster tantrums Koda has pulled the last two days...I'm really really sure we made the right call in not sending him.  And with moving in 9 months to who knows where...we're (I'm) finally at peace.

oooh, and in exciting (for us) news.  We are really getting a sense for how Koda in particular learns.  He is such a hands on learner (for sure not a natural at sitting and doing bookwork, unlike Tristen).

This past month he has developed a huge interest in all things outdoors.  He knows the campus trail system better than I do- and honestly has a better sense of direction by far than I could dream of.  He decided after reading a book with Travis to build an emergency shelter along the trails and he did (with dad's muscle help) and it turned out fantastic :)  He also loves to find animal imprints, and with dads help is getting better at identifying the animal.

Fascinating to see the differences in learning with my two :)

Elizabeth went to her first "intro" day at her preschool today. She has another one tomorrow, but since this is her third year she knows the ropes. She just went right in as if she had been there yesterday. She does know some of the kids there but right now there are partial classes. I have no doubt she will love it.

She is also doing a dance class once a week. We probably will be signing her up for a music class a half hour before preschool (it's held at the preschool) one day a week. We are also toying with the idea of having her do gymnastics one a week too. It sounds like a lot to me but on the other hand, I know she needs to expand her horizons. Even though she is not in kindergarten, I will be working with her on some kindergarten concepts at home this year.

From the reports I am getting from friends, I am glad we waited. I just think emotionally and socially is would be too much for her right now. We are still working out the kinks, but we still see friends that are starting kindergarten. I think it is just now starting to sink in that most of her friends are not going to be at school with her.

Robin, thank you for asking and posting this. I am reading and happy to hear about all the exciting adventures of those starting kindergarten. I enjoy seeing the pictures and reading the stories. It was thoughtful of you to pull those of us not doing kindergarten into the light too.

Cole's intro day is tomorrow and then the Bridge class starts the next day

he'll be going to 9-2:30, which for him is a long day but isn't nearly as long as the public school day here for kindergarten

i'm excited for him to have this year to grow, physically and emotionally, and i'm looking forward to having cole and jack in the same school this year

Owen is doing well. This is week two of pre-k. He goes on M and W from 9-1. It is the same school he has been going to the last two years.

He has no issue with others at Kindy, again I know he would've done fine in Kindergarten I just wondered more on down the road. With more work load as they got older I wanted him to have another year older under his belt.

We have pre-k orientation this Friday and Christopher will start going after labor day, on Tuesday.  His hours will be the same as last year: M-F 9-12 with an option of staying till 1 on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday.  He is not very excited about school but I know that once he meets his teachers and friends he will get more excited.  We will also be doing soccer this Fall.

I have been working on writing letters and numbers with him every morning and he is way more interested than he was last year. He can also recognize most of the letters now.  I think he would have done fine in K but there are so many boys repeating pre-k here that it's crazy... I just didn't want him to be the youngest one in the class.  Now I am sure that next year he will definitely be more than ready and I feel good about it.

LOL, than it would come as no surprise that after reading your no TV post we drastically (though not yet completely) eliminated it here as a trial and what a difference it is making.  So much calmer.
