So I'm curious to know what's going in your Kindergartener's backpack?

We have the option to give the teacher money for school supplies, which is what we'll be doing. I guess I'll get a small notebook and some pencils or crayons to put in for the first day, I don't know.

Lucas list says he needs a folder, lunch (or lunch money) and an afternoon snack/drink.

On the first day the optional school supplies that are for the class will go in there too.

well for the first day K has her supplies like her pencil box with her scizzors glue etc.

For everyday after that I hear practically nothing goes in it besides her papers she takes home and her lunchbox for snack.

We already dropped off school supplies. Tomorrow is her first day and it will have some paperwork and her lunch box. The only thing that will go back and forth will be her lunch box and a 3 ring binder. The binder is used for communications, homework, etc.

I forget what is on the list. They have everything packaged up and ready for purchase at the school, and the proceeds they make go into the PTO or PTA's (I forget which one we have) budget, so I'll be doing that. Easier on me, and apparently our PTA/O is really good, so I have no qualms about giving them the profits. I haven't gotten the stuff yet, which I assume is ok. We have a conference the 24th, so I plan on buying them then. I also have to pay them for the Scholastic newsletter and something else too, I forget what.

I do remember that the list was longer than I though it would be for a 5 year old though.

I did buy her a new lunchbag and a couple of iCarly things to take-she is very excited!!

Ethan's teacher sends a folder back and forth every day. Other than that, nothing. (yesterday, he came home with a few art projects, but I'm not sending anything to school.)

I did send in a few donations the teacher asked for, like tissues, hand sanitizer, etc. on the first day.

All actual school supplies are provided for the school for K.

It you do not have a supply list, I would just send him with a healthy snack and drink. No sense buying stuff you might not need.

Last year Clara got a list the first day and we had a few days to buy the supplies. Until then the teacher had other stuff arranged that did not need the supplies.

Joe's bag was empty the first day, we had already bought the school supplies online and it was being delivered straight to school.  He basically just went with a bottle of water.  Since then there is a folder which comes back and forth each day wih paperwork, school work and the newsletter. We also have a friday folder which just comes home at the end of the week with any pertinent comments written on the back and we have to sign and send it back monday.

IHNI!

He starts school on the 25th, and orientation is the day before.  So basically I have 1 night to shop, though I'm really not that worried that he's going to need a lot of stuff, especially since he only goes half days and won't eat lunch there.

i am blown away by how much is on R's list (we just got it today).
pencil box, scissors, 3 glue sticks, 2 folders, box of 8 crayons, box of 24 crayons, box of tissues, book bag, lunch box, smock, markers, 2 notebooks, pack of pencils, 3 pictures of R, package of ziplocs, 3 highlighters.
that seems like a lot to me!

eta:  i wonder what kindergarteners need to highlight??

The school posted a list for Kindergarten but I am going to wait until the Open house next Thursday before I get anything just in case his teacher wants anything different. We did buy his backpack already. We got it from Staples when they were offering a full rebate so I am also waiting for that and hoping that it comes in time so I can just use the $15 for school supplies. Here is his list that the school posted:

Kindergarten
pencils 1 pkg of 12
grade level tablets /paper 1
crayons 2 boxes
supply box 1
clear/mesh book bag 1
tissues 2 boxes
pocket folders 3
hand sanitizer 2
white glue or stick 2 pkg
safety scissors 1
composition notebook
