Anybody giving Miralax everyday?

Dominic still struggles with pooping issues. I think it will be something he has for the rest of his life.  It got so bad last week that we almost took him to urgent care and had to give him an enema. I feel so bad for him! I have never heard of a child having so many pooping issues! no Anyway, I am thinking that maybe if I give him a teaspoon per day that will keep him going regularly and am just wondering of anybody has given it to their child long-term and if there were any effects? Also how much are you giving if you are giving it everyday?

mason took it every day for about a year.  for a while, he was eating activia yogurt every day and didn't need the miralax any more.  but, he decided he didn't like the yogurt any more.  now, he drinks prune juice every day.  i also don't give him cereal as much any more and give him scrambled eggs fried in sunflower oil, which helps quite a bit.  the prune juice alone would probably work.  i mix it half prune juice half apple juice and he actually likes it.  i tell him it is "purple apple juice".

Carter took it daily for 6 months and my niece has been taking it daily for years with no ill effects.

I tried to give him the Activia yogurt and he won't drink it, he says he doesn't like it. I will try the prune/apple juice combo and see if he will drink that. He is so picky, it drives me crazy! How much Miralax were you giving him per day?

Lauren takes it every day.  Actually she did not respond to the OTC miralax very well after being on it daily for 6 months and her gastro put her on the rx form of it and that works for her.  She takes it daily with no problems.  She get between 3/4 - 1 full capfull in 8 oz of chocolate milk each morning. She knows her body well enough to tell me how she is feeling and is even allowed to have an extra serving in the eveing if she needs it.    She has been on the rx version for almost 9 months now.

I'm sorry to hear he is having trouble.  Lauren has struggled with this for years.  She drinks so much water every day and eats lots of fruits and fairly healthy (all things considered).  Some kids just have a really different time going and need extra help.  We do see a pediatric gastroenterologist at the childrens hospital for her because her pedi felt like her case was serious enough to be sent there.

I hope you can find something that works for him.

with the prune juice, he doesn't need the miralax any more.  try starting slowly, like 1/4 prune juice in 3/4 apple juice.  then, slowly increase the amount of prune.  will he eat eggs?  I have found the scrambled eggs in sunflower oil really helps too.  i think olive oil would also work, sunflower oil is just easy to get here.
