just had a friend whose dh complained about his job on facebook.  He wasn't friends with his boss, but someone printed it, gave it to the boss, and he was just hauled in for some intense scrutiny and now my friend is freaking about losing his job (not from this alone, but now being under scrutiny and them looking for reasons).

Be careful what you post and who you friend.  Just a friendly reminder.  In this economy, no one needs that stress.

Good reminder.

I try to use that theory in all aspects of my life. I'm not always successful but you never know who is reading - or reading over your shoulder, etc.

I've got a good one. One of my facebook friends who is a friend from childhood has a crazy sense of humor and is always posting funny pics from the internet and saying out there things. Very funny guy.

Anyway the other day he posted as his status, "does anyone know how to get blood out of shag carpet and drapery?" So people were posting funny stuff back about how to get rid of DNA evidence and stuff.

Well a few days later the police showed up at his door. They said someone was concerned about a facebook post that he made.

CRAZY! Apparently all of his "friends" don't get his humor. And if he did commit some sort of crime that involved blood, I hope he wouldn't be dumb enough to post it on facebook.

Anyway, kind of funny.

I am my son's worst nightmare. I check all his post so he knows that if he writes something bad I will eat him alive.

I defriended most of my coworkers for this very reason. You never know how some people may react.

We've actually had quite a few people at my work lose their jobs over fb comments and craziness.

I created a whole seperate facebook for my university world.  Students always want to friend me, so they can there.  All my co-workers are also on that one.  I will allow someone on my real facebook when they've left the univeristy and we actually legit keep in touch.

Maybe I should look at my friends list again and do my annual purge.

DITTO
DITTO
DITTO

One night DS1 had a friend spend the night and let his friend post a status update on his FB account and it included the "f" word.

I was fairly certain John would not write that so I was pretty confident going in to the situation that it was his friend.

So I walk into his bedroom that morning and say to him in front of his friend "John, I'm sure your aunts, uncles and grandma are very proud to see the f word used i your status update this morning.  Please go in there now and remove it now."

He was VERY quick to point out that he didn't post it!

Whoa, got my firends list down to 99.

If MS peeps weren't on there, I'd be looking super sad since all my current collegues and anyone affiliated with my work in any way are on my work facebook only.

If I'd go to dinner with a person if they were in town for something, than that is a friend.  That is the line I use.  I'd love to go to dinner with all of you, actually moreso than many of my family who I wouldn't WANT to go to dinner with but would ;)

How exactly do you do that?

There are quite a few people, older people, who I'd like to block from my "what's on your mind" stuff.

Like I don't want it to show up in their newsfeed.

if you go under account and then privacy settings, you can click on personal information and posts.  then, if you choose customize, you can select specific people you want to block from certain categories.

hth!

thanks april...i have been wondering how to do that.

one of my husband's aunts just friend requested me and not that i write anything bad in my updates, i don't necessarily want her (and some other family members) to see everything.

another question...if i write something to someone on MY friend list does it automatically show up in everyone on my friend lists newsfeed? for example, i posted my cell number last week on someone's wall we had a playdate with and then i saw my post in my own newsfeed and was wondering if EVERYONE on my list saw it so i ended up deleting my phone number. i have old college guys and whatnot on my list and don't necessarily want them knowing my phone number.

I believe if they are friends with both of you, it wil appear.  So if Supa and April write something on each others wall, I believe I see it on my newsfeed.  It wasn't always like that, I htink they changed that a year or two back now?
