Are you planting a garden this year?  Any big plans?  What are your favorite things to plant?

And....in honor of earth day...

Does your family recycle?  Is your town recycle-friendly, or a big pain in the bottom about it?

Any green plans for earth day?

I have ALWAYS wanted to grow vegetables but I just cannot seem to get anything edible to grow.

Mark and I planted flowers in my 4x4 vegetable bed a couple weeks ago.

So I have a flower garden (if I can remember to water it).

We have big garden plans and no yard, lol.

We have plants started and will plant them at the inlaws as soon as the soil warms up.  IF Travis gets this job, we also have a garden spot there.  We'll see.

If plants make it, we'll have more tomatoes than we know what to do with, I'm sure.  We are trying to grow watermellons for the first time this year, but I'm not thinking we have the right conditions.  Again, we'll see.  We'll also have lettuce, broccoli, peas, string beans, pumpkin, cucumber, carrot, onion, and maybe some squash?  Travis didn't pick up those seeds yet, but I'd like to plant that as well.  Corn bombed last year, we won't plant that but my inlaws might try again.  We also picked up some gian sunflowers because we thought the boys would love love love those in their own seperate garden.

as for recycling, not nearly as much as we should.  Our biggest problem right now is that we don't have a space for a recycling bin, so it piles up, I get frustrated, and it gets tossed.

We have moved to single stream recycling (no sorting required, just rinse messes and toss all together) in the past few weeks, so I should make a new effort for sure.  I really want to get the boys into it, and I am looking forward to a future house where we can do our own composting.

Our city just rolled out a new program - everybody gets big recycling cans (like the size of our trash cans) and it no longer needs to be sorted. Just read an article about recycling increasing 100% so far. It sure makes it a heck of a lot easier to dump everything in there.

Morning!!!

My boss is out today YAY!!!

Nikki is still stuck in Italy. Some kids have left, they have to leave in small groups, including her two best friends (and really only friends). She has been crying for 36 hours and is not on the flight today or tomorrow. She is done and just wants to come home :(

How in the world did they pick who is in what group? You'd think they would keep friends together. That is kind of a traumatic experience.

I want a garden but have to do containers so I am still deciding how to handle it.

I dont recycle as much as I should which is dumb since I have to bring my trash to the dumpster and all the recycle pails are there too. All the soda and beer cans/bottles and water bottles get saved to return because we pay a 5 cent deposit on those.

They aren't able to pick, I called the school screaming. The airline has the giant list of people and they are just randomly assigning seats on planes. Paul left yesterday and Melissa left this morning.

We don't have a garden here, but of course his parents do as they do every year, so we'll get our fill of fresh veggies, lol

I think right now all they have planted is onions, corn and sweet potatoes.  But there will be cabbage, peas, tomatoes, potatoes, turnip and collard greens,  squash, peppers, etc..

She definitely won't be on today's plane it's gone LOL but there is a teeny tiny chance she can end up on tomorrow's, they are aware of how upset she is and are doing everything they can to get her out of there.

You'd also think they would have some recognition that some families don't have the means right now to swing for extra days of food, lodging, etc.  I don't mean that as a knock against Nikki, she busted her butt to go, but an extra $200 in expenses for her is like $2,000 to someone else, kwim?

I always try to grow a garden. I'm miserable at it. It doesn't help that between my cats, my kids, and the deer, my project is pretty much doomed from the start. My cats lay on or eat my seedlings, my kids tend to fall on them, and the deer eat anything that's outside.

However, I have tomatoes started indoors. Half of the ones that started growing have survived the first 3 weeks.

No, I don't recycle. I don't have room to separate things for one. Also, my recycling center only takes cans and newspapers. We don't drink soda from cans more than once every few years and we stopped our newspaper subscription a good 7-8 years ago.

Thankfully the only thing they have to pay for is some of their food.  But the $100 I deposited for her yesterday was not easy to do thats for sure.  From what I just read on some of the facebook stuff is that she probably wont be leaving until Sunday *sigh*

Garden addict here!

I have been out weeding and plotting what I want to do in my flower beds.  My veggie garden I have not started yet.  Robert is building me some boxes so I can do raised beds to hopefully get more space and better soil.  If all goes well he will be building that this weekend.

I am going to try doing some companion gardening this year.  Tomatoes and basil you can grow closely together and they both do better than normal when put together.  Also I am going to plant some spinich with my strawberries.  I am not sure what else I am planting together yet.  I am also probably going to branch out and try growing potatoes.  I like to grow peppers too.  I am probably going to be sticking some herbs this year among my flowers in the front too.

All these plans sound good.  Now I just hope I have the time.

LL that is just terrible what is happening to Nikki.  What should have been an experience of a lifetime filled with great memories is not ending well.  From another post you wrote, I am also guessing she will not be returning to what she is expecting either.  I hope she gets home soon.

I'm addicted to gardening . . . in my mind.

We don't have enough sunlight on our property to grow anything.  We've tried tomato plants several times and before they can get ripe our wonderful dog pulls them off the vine and eats them!

We have some churches around here who I think will rent you a  plot - you plant your garden and tend to it.  I thought about doing that but remembered, I only love gardening in my mind.

So I bought one of those upside down tomato plant things and will be trying that.  We'll see how it goes.

I do flowers/plants the same way.  I'm hella gung ho this time of year and fizzle fast!

I've also realized I'm a lot of things in my mind that I'm not in real life evileye

Hoping and praying for the teeny tiny chance :)
