Hi!

How is everyone today?

What's your next major (or not so major) home improvement project?

Hi Robin! How are you today?

I am ok-I am not feeling stellar today, but not horrible either. Lots of gas pains today (sorry for the TMI), and this cold I have will not go away-I think the meds keep me from getting over things quickly. So I am resting and hanging out in cyberspace while the girls are in their rooms for their rests too.

I am going to acupuncture tomorrow-she said we'll focus on my cold and trying to get rid of it-that sounds heavenly!

So-home improvement! I have one for this!!!

We are doing our siding. It has needed to be done since we moved in, but when we moved in, we had no idea how much it would be. The houses here have vertical siding (not on the front-but the back and sides, since we are an end unit), and it is pricey!!

My neighbors on the other end got quotes for theirs and it was btwn $8-11K. We are not spending that much money. We are either going to replace what we have, which is wood type siding, or do the vertical ourselves. meaning Bill will do it with whoever he can convince to get up there with him. He is getting quotes for the siding prices this week and we will go from there. Bill said he thinks the siding itself will be a few thousand, but he really isn't sure-we want to get it to match the stuff he put on the shed.

We are also going to re-paint the stucco board on the front of the house (our houses have this silly tudor style to them-it really doesn't look that great, but we aren't allowed to change it) and replace the boards that trim out the stucco because the woodpeckers have done a number on them.

So that is first up on the list.

Hi!

We did story time this morning now just hanging out about to lay Keegan down for nap then myself..ahhh

As far as home improvement. Not much planned. We have a lot of rearranging of sleeping arrangements to do in the upcoming months with this baby coming.

We have more projects after the siding, but since we have a bird problem, we have to do the siding first. The woodpeckers have put holes along the side of the house and if we don't do something about it soon into the season, we'll end up with a nest in one of the holes.

Anyway, after the siding and front fix up stuff, Bill needs to repair the new steps because they took some wear from salting from the snow-new concrete shouldn't be salted and ours got some salt on them.

Also I need a few more plants for the front garden, but I need to wait and see how my bushes do-they took a pounding with all of the snow we got and I am not sure they will make it. Thankfully the nursery where I bought them will replace them if they die within a year and I just got them this past fall.

That should do it for outside for now.

Yay for a nap!!!

How many bedrooms do you have?  4?  Who do you think will double up?

After we get the outside done, we are going to do the kitchen. We are going to paint it, refinish the cabinets and *maybe* get new countertops. I am not sure on the last one. Basically the big job is going to be new cabinet doors. Bill wants to build them. SIGH. I wish we could just buy the dumb things!!! We priced it out and to buy them would end up being like $400. Not bad-he just thinks he can do it better-which is probably true, but I would like the kitchen to be done in this century.

We'll see. He has to build a custom cabinet for one of the walls, so he figured he would just do it all-IHNI when he thinks he will do all of this.

He also wants to MAKE concrete countertops. UGH. I mean, I have seen pics of them and I have to be honest, I was really surprised at how nice they look-IF you know what you are doing. Bill does not.

I would like to get new appliances-just a stove and fridge, but Bill doesn't want to. It would probably be more than we want to spend anyway, and he thinks it is silly to do that at this point. We are hoping we can hang onto this place and rent it, and he doesn't think we need new appliances for a rental. We'll see on that-maybe we could find a nice used fridge and stove-IDK. Ours are OLD.

ALSO, we want to redo our main floor powder room. We have the light fixture, the accesories, the paint, the tile...basically everything except a new vanity. We just need to do it. But while it is the smallest bathroom in the house, it is also the most used, so it has been hard to commit to doing it.

But given that we have everything-we just need to rip it out and get it done-it shouldn't take more than a long weekend if we get everything organized.

After those projects, the rest of the inside is just finishing things. Is anyone else's husband like this? Bill is great at getting things about 85-90% done. Then somehow things don't get finishing. We have some floor transitions he needs to finish, some molding that never got done, holes that need patched, etc. Plus he never finished the basement steps, which is the last thing that needs to be done down there.

It is like he just gives up and says it is good enough. IDGI.

We don't have any projects planned right now. We're saving for our first "real" vacation (meaning a vacation that's not to visit family). Plus we need to save for dental work and work on paying our house off. I do have a few minor things that need done in my house but haven't had time to find someone to do them.

GM, BTW. I've spent my morning working on the list of things I want to get done this week. It's amazing how much I can get done when I don't have to teach my kids. If I work hard I can probably get most of my list done today. I LOVE spring break!

We also want to do a patio out back, but IDK if we will get to it. And IHNI what we will use to do it. We are cheap, so it has to be something cheap. I suggested stamped concrete-we could color the concrete and stamp it-it looks pretty good! But Bill says it would be too much concrete to get back here and we couldn't get a truck to get back to our backyard.

Pavers are too much-I am not spending the money on those.

So we'll see. We also would like to get some actual grass growing, but have not have much luck with that. Our new neighbor though works in landscaping and said he could suggest some types of grass that should grow well with all the shade we have back there. So yay!

Hi Alaina! Where are you all planning on going for vacation? That is exciting!

Dental work-not so much. I really need to go to the dentist as well. But I am dreading it-I know I will need work done and that will not be fun at all.

I had to wake the girls up this morning for school. Yesterday everyone seemed fine, but today we were all dragging our butts. They were not happy with me for waking them.

I don't like springing forward. But the steroids don't let me sleep in anyway, so it hasn't been as bad as usual.

I do like having the lighter evenings though. That is nice.

We want to take a southern California trip in a year or two.  We'd like to stop by Mesa Verde and the 4 corners on our way and go to Disneyland, Sea World, and Magic Mountain when we're in California.  I'd also like to take my kids to the beach where my mom grew up and visit my grandmother's grave.  All that is going to be very expensive so we have to save.

I have prednisone induced diabetes this time around. It SUCKS. I have these times when my blood sugar much drop off and I get sweaty hands, jittery, anxious, racing heart, etc. I HAVE to eat something quick and then I feel better.

It is so weird. And I am guzzling water like no one's business.

We don't have any diabetics in my family, so I really have no idea how to deal with this-I need to call the GI and tell them about it, but I don't want to end up having to deal with insulin or something. I am hoping I can start tapering off of the prednisone in a few weeks, and I know this will resolve once I am off of them.

It is rough though. My face is all puffy, acne all over, my facial hair is growing, my skin is dry and thinning, muscle weakness, mood swings, etc. The steroids have SOOOOO many side effects. Then when I taper, these things will go away but I will have crippling joint pain, I'll lose my hair, start all over with the menstrual issues and have paranoid delusions. Great fun.

Don't ever take steroids if you don't have to!!!

Wow!!!  That will be amazing!!!!!  But yes-with a large family like yours, that will be a costly trip.  But worth it!!!  That sounds really awesome.

ITA about the time thing.  I was stupid and didn't go to bed until 1:30 (new time) Saturday so I was very tired when I had to get up at 8 yesterday.  Then I took a nap yesterday afternoon knowing it would be a mistake.  It made me not able to sleep so I stayed up reading until 1:30 last night, too.  My schedule is all messed up now.  Blech.

It looks like I should be doing something else-I am posting too much.

I am reading The Last Song right now-my MIL gave it to me while I was in the hospital. I am about halfway through it. His books always make me cry though-but so far no tears.

Isn't this the one that is now going to be a movie with Miley Cyrus? I think it is.

I can not remember the last movie I saw. It has been a long long time.

It really is hard to adjust.  And when you have to get up on Sunday for church and such, it is hard.

I feel all off schedule too!  And I have had to figure out when to take my meds and all because they have to be timed right-blah blah blah.  Sprining forward is so much harder than falling back.

I got a Z-pack from the walk-in clinic the other day, and it is helping my cold significantly.

My throat finally stopped hurting, and now I'm just a little snotty.

I hope you start feeling better asap. Feeling lousy is the pits.
