Our kiddos got new easter buckets this year and will have a couple of yummy earth organic lollipops (red 40 free) and a small peanut-safe chocolate bunny. For sure candy is not the emphasis, it just can't be with the allergies.
A bookstore went out of business and we scored a ton of kids books for .88, so they will be get a whole bunch. We have so many that I will probably hold some back for their birthday and maybe even beyond that. I also have some sand toys and even though it is extremely early, I might put some of the small shovels, etc into the buckets.
We will go for an egg hunt in the courtyard, and all the eggs will either have matchbox cars in them, or 1-2 yummy earth organic gummy bears (again with the red 40...but these taste so good that now I am a huge huge fan).
If the weather is nice, we might do some egg races with wooden spoons and have a few small prizes.
My inlaws will be up for the day and despite my reminder, Travis's reminder, and my sister in laws reminder, we are all betting they show up with a boat load of candy. They just can't get their head around the red 40/peanut thing. We're betting on red peanut M&Ms. Because they are helpful like that.
Anyway, they always get too much candy because they get baskets from my parents, and we have two easter egg hunts on easter day and they get candy from both of those things too. So we are going to go minimal on the candy this year. A chocolate bunny I am sure, and maybe a couple small other pieces like some jelly beans or something.
Their main things are going to be plush princess dolls. Anna will be getting Belle and Kate will be getting Sleeping Beauty. I also found a plush Prince Phillip on eBay and a plush Beast as well, so those should fill the baskets pretty well. (they are large-the dolls are 20")
Otherwise, I'll go to the dollar store and get some odds and ends-stickers, notepads, that sort of thing.
Easter is pretty well set in our house-we get up and go to church, go to breakfast hosted by Bill's aunt (there is a hunt after breakfast then), then we go to my parent's house, hang with them and have lunch, come home and have a rest, then we go over to the farm in the afternoon, have the big egg hunt there, then dinner.
Can you believe I haven't really done anything yet?
Yep.
She'll definately be getting The Princess and the Frog dvd, and some little toys - lps, I'm sure. She's been saving up her behavior jar clips for a LPS vehicle, but she broke a toy of my nephews this week and offered to use her clips to replace it, so I think the Easter Bunny will hook her up with one of those. She'll get her fave candies - Milky way bunnies and Reese eggs... I'll end up just picking up some stuff on the fly as I see fun stuff. I haven't been very focused on it lately, and I need to get with the program.
Lucas has so much crap already that I hate to buy him anything... especially since when we moved to our new house he got all new everything... new bed, new Thomas bedding and decor..... (DAMN YOU EBAY)
I did pick up a basket and a chocolate bunny from the Dollar tree though. I think I might just get him a puzzle, a movie, or a board game or something. Or maybe some sort of toy to play with in the backyard?
Jake is crazy into Bakegan (I don't even know how to spell it!). I scored a 6 pack at Target a few weeks back for $9. He will get that and a Bakegan case and a Veggie Tales movie.
I will use bubbles and sidewalk chalk and other cheap outdoor things for summer as fillers.
I also thought about getting the big boys Mario Olympics as a together gift and Keegan some puzzle or something but not sure if I will do that or not.
Jake loves Mario Olympics!!!
I remember you saying that. And my kids loved watching the olympics.
do you have the summer or winter ones?
winter - it was fun to play leading up to the olympics. Jake was excited to see some of the events in the real olympics since he'd already been playing them on the Wii!
i love love doing easter baskets. i think it just might be my favorite gift giving event of the year!
i haven't got much yet, other than plastic eggs and 2 baskets for their egg hunts. as far as baskets, i am planning on:
rain boots bathing suits sand pails, etc bubbles (or those bubble belly things--they love them, but they never last more than one summer) for grace- some gymbo necklaces & hair stuff flip flops or summer sandals of some sort play doh kites
