Long story short, Kenneth and I have been having some problems here in the last few months. Things are a little better now, but I just really need some "me" time. My college roommate has invited me to come stay the weekend with her--leave tomorrow come back Sunday right after lunch.
I was really looking forward to going..going to bed when I wanted to, getting up when I wanted, going to the bathroom by MYSELF, hanging out with a friend I haven't seen in over 10 years, etc..
Then the mommy guilt sets in. How can I leave my kids with Kenneth, and he's leaving Suunday right after I get home to go to work? Shouldn't I be here since he's leaving? Then my dad makes the comment ( he was joking, but still..) "Your mama never left you, she hung right in there with y'all" UGH!!!
Mommy guilt will never go away, but I think you miss things when you are gone and become an even better mommy when you come home and having a couple days to pamper yourself, build up your own reserves will be better for your whole family.
Go! Have fun, relax and realize you deserve to be Jennifer and not Mommy for a couple of days. Time away will actually make you a better Mommy in the long run.
I think you should go. I think because things have not been the greatest lately it makes it more difficult. Let this be a time for you to get away, get energized, have some time to think outside of it all, and come back with a stronger more clear you.
It might also give dh an opportunity to do some bonding with your girls and also get a better idea of how it is to be you. Instead he will be the one waiting for you to come home. Sometimes it's good to see the other side.
And I can't believe I am telling you this, but pray about it. I hope whatever you do, you have a great weekend.
I'm glad your going. I think mommy breaks make us better. I know it's hard, I had a hard time with it when I went to NY. I hope you have a fabulous rejuvenating awesome time!
I agree with the others. You deserve the break. You will feel so much better. And it's not like you are leaving the girls with a babysitter--it's their father, who deserves a chance to spend quality time with them too.
jenn, i really believe that we are better mommies when we get some "me" time. after a little time away, i always come back feeling fantastic, and i really miss mason and give him so much attention. when it has been a while since i have had time for myself, i notice i sometimes stop giving him enough attention because i just need a break.
