Please take me out back and shoot me if I end up on one of those shows.

That's my biggest nightmare.

It always amazes me when hoarders have people/spouses living with them.

That's where I'd have to draw the line on the "for better or worse" part of my vows.

Yes!

Well, I've seen hoarders and those people are extra insane, so not really, but if there were a show about training to be a hoarder, I could TOTALLY be on that. Our bedroom and the guest room (holy crap, definately the guest room) tend to be our biggest catch alls. Since Christmas, I wasn't even able (literally) to see the floor in their. Something bit me last week (I think finally getting realistic about having several guests staying here this year) and I threw away a ton of stuff. I still have some to do, but it ended up being a blessing, as Joe's been sleeping in there while Hannah's had a cold.

But our bad rooms are normally very bad. We have way too much stuff, in way too small of a space.

That show seriously scares me into action as well. I don't think I could ever be like they are, but we are like Leah-we have too much stuff in too small a space. It is hard to deal with! I do think some of these issues would be alleviated if we had more space, but some of it is also lack of good organizational systems.

We are getting better though-and I am determined not to live like this forever. (meaning, I would feel the need to pick up before anyone comes over-I feel like that now, and I hate living that way)

But seriously-I find that show hard to watch. And thank GOD you can't SMELL through the TV. some of those episodes, I just can't even imagine how bad it must smell, kwim?

omg...ok...I could not live like that.  I watched the episode where the guy had the adopted boy with a disability.  It was hard to watch, but it just seemed like he was totally overwhelmed and all.  I didn't watch the end though.

it seems like we move crap around from room to room (whatever room we are working on at the time) like everything from the kitchen got moved into the dining room while we were painting and every thing got moved into the bathroom while we were painting the family room (sooo much stuff to go through and sort out)

It's on A&E, right after Intervention.

i am def the complete opposite of a hoarder.

is my mil a french hoarder - i swear she has not thrown ANYthing away since the 60's.  except it is all neatly arranged in her basement/attic...  does that count?

(i will never forget a few years back we went to the beach on vacation and she insisted on bringing the beach umbrella (me with my very fair skin...)  we get on the beach, and they unroll the plastic tsarp and there lies an umbrella from the 70s -all thick vinyl complete with avocado green and harvest gold flowers and those braided fringey tassles.  they tried to open it, but it was rusted shut and then it proceeded to disintegrate before our eyes.  LMAO!

just see i can buy season 1 in itunes for 13 bucks - is it worth it???

honestly . . . I find it really disturbing and it causes me anxiety to watch it.  I'm not sure I've ever watched an episode beginning to end.  Personally, I wouldn't spend $13 to stress myself out no

It depends.

I wouldn't, but I really LOVED the show the first few episodes. Then, like Kris, it really started stressing me out. Like, a LOT. The last episode I watched fully was the place with the hundreds of dead cats - or the guy with feces and toilet paper and poopy clothes piled up 3 ft high over his ENTIRE bathroom, falling out into the hallway. Whichever was left.

If you can watch without stressing, it's crazy interesting tv. I couldn't do it.

My husband and a few of my children tend to be that way. It drives me nuts. Every time I talk about going through things and getting rid of stuff, dh and ds freak out. In the meantime, Rebecca and I both are about to go insane with the amount of things there are in this house. I've NEVER seen any kid with as many toys as my kids have. EVER. But suggest giving a few away? Temper tantrums and silent treatment galore. Grrrr! And I can't just sneak things out because this is a small house. There's always someone within sight who catches me. Honestly, I thought I was bad about keeping things. Dh and most of my children are worse. I keep trying to convince them that we don't have the space and certainly don't need to hold onto things we don't use. My kids don't know half the toys they have because there's so many. I try to keep things as organized as I can, but it's gotten to the point there's not really any more I can do. I feel claustrophobic in my own home and there's very little I can do about it.

ummm, barf! I hope those houses were condemned and those people were taken away in straight jackets.

I haven't watched those shows, but I have heard of cat collectors.  I knew a lady who had alot of cats and I used to love to go to her house, but not once did I ever smell the cat box or anything.  she kept her house incredibly clean.  but eventually it did become too much and she got down to only a couple cats.

holy crap, it must be a french thing, because my mil does the exact.same.thing. we always joke how bad it's going to be when she is gone, because she has her basement and attic PACKED with stuff. It's all super neat and organized, but the woman keeps EVERYTHING. When Dani was born in 1999, she brought up her grown children's toys, crib, highchair, everything. Keep in mind her oldest child was 34 at the time. She has since kept everything from when Dani was a baby (including bottles and nipples!) and whipped it all out when Jules was born. Most of her stuff is stored in the original packaging-it's nuts!

I remember last year she finally broke down and bought a new dining room table, and freaked out when George and his dad tried to break the old one up (which was super broken, anyway) to take to the garbage. She cried, it was awful. She did the same thing when his dad threw away a really disgusting old mattress.

Crazy french women (that i love dearly heart.gif )
