Hannah starts spelling tests and phonogram tests this week. What is a phonogram and how do I practice it with her? I googled it but i'm kind of not getting it. Probably dumb. But for the week her phonograms are Cc Oo and Gg. Can anyone help with an explanation? smile

Not a clue, never heard of it.

They did not start spelling tests here until 1st grade. I am surprised she is already starting them.

I just tried to get you on fb, for some reason I thought you used to be a teacher, I must have you mixed up with someone else. Yeah i'm baffled. They are just doing these the second half of the year to prepare them for 1st grade. I just dont get the phonogram thing. It's probably very simple.

i can't help either. we don't do phonograms in high school, although we do spelling tests (b/c my kids cannot spell).

my bff jammi's son is in kindergarten and they do weekly spelling tests that just started. she can't believe how rigorous the kindergarten curriculum is there. he's supposed to be writing sentences for homework!!!

I know I am late answering this, but phonograms are more or less the sounds that a letter or combination of letters make.  One of the most popular curriculum used for this is The Writing Road to Reading.  I think amazon sells a book on it.  Here is also a link of free printable flash cards that should help.

Thank you Libby! I think we figured that out somewhat after her first test LOL. I really meant to ask her teacher but it totally slipped my mind!
