Southern Vampire Series = True Blood

I am loving these books. I am on book 6 and I really am enjoying the read.

I almost do not want to watch True Blood because I like characters as I have them in my head.

Have any of you that read the books, watched the series? Do you like the characters and who plays them?

The actors are definitely different from what I had in my head, except for Bill.

I HATED the guy who plays Eric at first, now I want to be the mother of his vampire children. Yum!

They take a lot of liberties with the story lines too so know that going in and you won't be disappointed.

I really liked the books....I really like the TV series. My husband and I always have a show that we watch together each season as kind of a date night (sopranos, sex and the city, survivor) and this has become our new show.

WARNING - there is tons of graphic sex!!

I say go for it. It's fun to watch them come to life.

And as an extra bonus, Lafayette, who wasn't a major character in the books, is a major character in the show and he is HIGH-larious!!!

I need to get season one and watch it. I cannot wait.

I was wondering what you thought of sookie in True Blood. I did not picture her to look like Anna Paquin. Is she good in it?

Is the sex graphic in the books? How graphic is it in the series? NVM, I am sure too graphic for my taste but am still curious about in the books.

I do not think the books are graphic in sex at all. I mean there is talk of it, but not graphic IMO

They refer to the sex more in the books.

There are sex scenes but so far, and I'm only on book 3, it has been more sweet.

Melissa to answer your question Anna P. was not at all what I had in mind for Sookie but I've come to appreciate her in the series.

I'm currently reading the series for the 3rd time and I looooooove the show. I wasn't sure how I felt about Anna Paquin at first but now I really like her.

Basically, everything Kristi said I totally agree with. Especially about Lafayette.

Like you- I read the Sookie Stackhouse series before I saw the first season of True Blood. I believe I was about halfway through before I saw Season 1 on DVD. I had some preconceived notions on how I perceived the each character.

I like Anna Paquin as Sookie.

I like Stephen Moyer as Bill though he's a bit overkill at times.

I like Ryan Kwanten as Jason Stackhouse. Fits perfectly.

I swoon for Sam Trammel as Sam Merlotte.

Nelson Ellis is NOT how I pictured Lafayette Reynolds.

I do not care for Rutina Wesley as Tara Thornton at all.

Chris Bauer isn't really how I though of Andy Bellefleur but he really does capture the rivalry between Stackhouse and himself perfectly I feel.

And Skarsgard as Eric......................................................... I am not an Eric fan but I could be turned. No pun intended.

Carrie Preston as Arlene- not how I pictured her but just as dumb.

I'm anxious to see to how Alcide comes out. DYING to see Quinn. YUMMY!!!!!!!!!!!!

Didn't care for Evan Rachel Wood as Sophie-Anne. Eew.

And Season 2 strayed heavily from Book 2 so I have high hopes for Season 3.

And for those that haven't read the books- READ THE BOOKS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! You will LOVE THEM!

If you think Edward Cullen is something to die for- Wait till you read the men of Charlaine Harris' S.S. novels.

I am a Trubie. No shame.

I am anxiously awaiting the arrival of book 10. Waiting, waiting, waiting.

And Season 4 was just picked up by HBO!!!!

I watched the show first and now I'm reading the books (halfway through book 2).

I'm not a huge show fan - i watch it but bill drives me absolutely wacky. he's so over the top.

the books are strangely the same as the show and completely different. I am pretty impressed how closely the actors do seem to be like the characters in the book. The story diverges quite a bit from the books but that makes sense when you have to fill hours of a show.

I think you'll like the tv show ok if you know that it isnt' the same.

I don't particularly like Sookie in the show but I do feel like Anna does a pretty good job sticking to the character from the book.

I have to disagree with this statement...

I like Ryan Kwanten as Jason Stackhouse. Fits perfectly.

To me Ryan is NOTHING like Jason and the TV character is way more dumb than he is in the books...and sweaty....and dirty all the time.

One on screen character that I LOVED, loved, loved was Godric.

He was awesome.

The actor was short and I pictured him really tall but he did an awesome job!!

I think Jason in the show is hilarious but I don't think he matches the book at all. He's my favorite show character and I love him but he doesn't really seem like the same character.

I have definitely grown to appreciate TV Jason but mainly because he's such a dork.

I liked it when he and Andy joined forces.

1ht

I think that's the way the screenwriters wanted him to come across. And as I read the books I always got the feeling he was a bit simpler. I admit that he is dumb in the show but he is one HOT dumb ass.
biggrin
I just like the way he is comes off as the other side of Jason- the oversexed Stackhouse. He plays it so well. And I'm anticipating the other seasons in which we delve into Jason  a bit. Won't spoil it for those who haven't read the books. For those who haven't read the books and need the series- I own it all and would love to share it-

I will say- I do not like the who F.o.t.S. crap with Jason. No, no, no. So glad that's over with. Eew.

I loved that whole bit with him and Andy joining forces. That was awesome. Completely unrealistic in the books but awesome.
