Mason will definitely not be going to regular kindergarten this fall. I just found out about an early kindergarten that our school district has, specifically for younger 5 year olds and those not ready for real kindy, so it's basically a first year of 2 years of kindergarten. This sounds so perfect for Mason, and I am so excited about it! It's FREE and full-time, and I'm going to be chomping at the bit until I can get him registered and official this spring, LOL.
One of my good friends taught a K class like the one you described. It was specifically for summer birthday kiddos. Based on how they did, some went on to first grade and some stayed another year in K.
Kaylin will be going to K every day for half days. She'll be going to the Charter School that Braydon attends. We just love it. I know she'd love to go full time, but I can't justify the price when I'm at home.
If it is open, another year of preK where he is at.
He will begin kindy the following year with me at home. We will actually begin Tristen at the same time since he is already ahead of Koda with sight words, etc.
Hannah's going to public kindergarten next year... we're trying to get her into a different district than what we live in, so cross your turkeys for us. I'll be amazed if I have any hair by summer.
Brittany started school this year. I'm not doing much with her, but I'm hoping to get her reading and adding by the end of the school year. She's not even eligible to start public school until 2011. The cut off date here is June 1.

confused...

Mark will be going to full-time K at Henry's school. It will be the only year that they'll be at the same school.
I got a fantastic report from Mark's preschool teacher on Monday so I know he's ready socially. He's got some way to go before he'll be ready academically but it's only January.

I was thinking the same thing.
Are charter schools usually free?

yes. they receive a % of public school funding, but run their own system. that's one of many reasons that they are so controversial.
eta: wikipedia's summary reflects how i thought charter schools always work.

Charlie will be starting regular public kindergarden (called primary here).
i am going on Feb 5 to register him.
i am so happy we moved here. he is going to be going to one of the two best schools in the city and all of his later schools (jr high and high school) are ranked the best in Halifax.
i'm thrilled.
we really wanted him in this school. our daycare has a afterschool/before school program where we drop him off in the room he's in now and at 8:30 they will walk him up to school and pick him up after school to go to the afterschool program.
thrilled.
it is so stressful waiting for the house to sell but it was really such a perfect decision for us.

oh, and our cut off for primary was moved from Sept 1 to Dec 31 so Charlie will be in the middle of his class which I think is perfect for him.
after 2 full years in daycare, I think he is ready for school (i was worried most about the socialization) but if the cut off had been Sept 1 I would have given it a lot more thought. His teachers say he is ready so I'm happy with that decision.
Kylie will be starting kindergarten the end of August. Our cutoff is Dec 2nd. I am trying to get her in to our local charter school. Our school district uses a lottery system for the charter school. I am not happy with the school in our immediate area. If she doesn't get in to the charter school I may enroll her in independent studies through the charter school which will put her at the top of the waiting list and secure her spot there for first grade.
I would be fine with just holding her back a year if she doesn't get in, but she is already taller than all the kids her age.
ETA: Our charter school is publicly funded and free.

Gavin will be going to public Kindergarten. If I stand on the corner of our street (or house is on the corner) I can see his school from there! Yay! Registration is in April.
We only have one elementary level charter school in our county, and I don't even know where it is!! (it is free though)
I am not big on all day K, but it is what it is. We are in a very good school district, at least. Her teachers tell me she is ready, though still a bit quiet and hesitant to ask when she needs something. They are working on it, but they think she will do just fine. I don't think any of the public schools in my local area even offer 1/2 programs anymore!
We need to get our butts in gear and find a house. I'm not even sure when registration opens up, but Kyle will most likely be going to public K full-day. Just depends on where we decide to live. The cutoff here is Sept 1st.
