we have no plans today - no family is coming - our plans are for tomorrow this year. i had the girls all psyched bc mike took the day off from work - i told them we were having our own special christmas eve celebration today, etc...plus i was going to go visit my grandma at the nursing home by myself (the kids cant handle it there) -
and i have to clean the house for tomorrow, get all my serving stuff out, etc...
and blow my hair out...
just needed help today.
and now mike has to go to work :(
so i'm spending christmas eve TOTALLY alone besides the kids. i am sooo bummed out.
just wanted to complain :)

maybe you can come up with a fun activity to prevent you from thinking about it. let them decorate sugar cookies or something?

i thought of doing this but i just have so much around the house to do, i'm not sure i can handle another mess ya know? christmas wasnt even supposed to be here - this is a last minute thing, so i'm not all that prepared.  i also need to redo the tree bc 3 strings are out (aye yi yai) - i just have a thousand things to do.

they're watching a movie right now - i just vacuumed upstairs, i have a load of laundry in, and i'm now back upstairs to clean the bathroom and dust their rooms and the playroom.  i cant clean downstairs till they're asleep tonight. i figure if i can get most of the housework done this morning, maybe i can bring the kids to the nursing home later (thrilling) or do something fun with them outside the house. i haaaave to get to the nursing home somehow.

even my jewish friends have plans today!!!

That sucks!  If it makes you feel any better my dh is off at his work too.  I hope today turns out better than you expected.

thanks guys. i dont think it would be so bad if i had been expecting it.  but i was expecting a nice day - i thought we'd swap errands and watching the kids, and then maybe at like 3 we'd go into the village (up here, not in the city) and do some browsing, get hot chocolates, etc.
i guess i'll still aim to do that with the kids, and let my hair be in a bun tomorrow.

Thank you.  My dh is a workaholic so I am no longer surprised by things like this.  Don't get me wrong, he's a great guy.  He just loves his work immensely.  I am taking E to go pick out a present for her brother, which should be interesting.  While we are out I am going to go feed the cats we are taking care of and E gets to give them their Christmas presents and she has one waiting for her there too.  I may or may not brave the grocery store.  I only need a couple of things so maybe I can get dh to stop on his way home.

We are suppose to go to Christmas Eve services this evening, but we will see.  My house is not too bad, but I also need to figure out when to bake cookies today.  Unfortunately I have NOTHING wrapped so I am in deep do do tonight.  It's hard when every waking moment is practically with your child attached to your side.

I think I may insist on E taking a nap today.  She has been so tired in grumpy in the late afternoon and I know we will be up later tonight.  Maybe I can get a few things done then.

Sorry for the novel.  I also wouldn't get overly worried about your house.  Just make sure the picture taking areas are in decent order and no one else will know the difference. smile

itu about the workaholic husband - i am not shocked by this today either.
itu about the kids right by your side all day and there's no time to do anything "secretly."  thank god my kids have each other and will go upstairs for an hour so i can get stuff done.  but all wrapping has been done after bedtime -- all month. ug.
all dusting is now done - i'm onto the bathrooms.
deviled eggs are being boiled.
serving trays are up and washed.
need to deal with the cloth napkins and tablecloth now.

I am sorry Kelly. I can "hear" the disappointment in your posts. Like Sonya mentioned, hopefully Mike can get home a teeny bit early and that you can still make something fun of the day. :hugs

I'm sorry Kelly!

I can jump on the workaholic DH bandwagon!  My DH is on a fire restoration project that is consuming his every single second and has been for 4 weeks.  Late last night he decided to x-mas shop before coming home.  He called me every 2.5 minutes needing direction and advice.  He's so mentally drained right now he can't figure out what to get anyone (and he's only shopping for me + the kids and I've done 99.8% of the kid shopping!).

I hope you go ahead with your plans and don't stay in today . . . try to enjoy the day as much as you can {hugs}

thanks everyone - you girls are so sweet.
mike ended up pulling through for me - he changed the dead lights on the tree (THREE STRANDS! ack!!!) - and he made the deviled eggs for tomorrow, plus went to the grocery store for a few extra things. then i took the girls out to lunch and he went to work - he made it speedy and is already on his way home - he'll be home by 330.  he's picking up the lasagna for tomorrow too (yes i ordered :bag)
we're taking the kids out for dinner.
so in all it ended up being fine.
you guys are the best :)
