the only advice i would probably give is to get the kind with the door, versus the wide open top with little ones around. we have the door kind and it is so nice to be able to have people over at night in the summer without having to worry someone's kid is going to fall in. my sister, on the other hand, has the wide open pit kind and it is so so non-relaxing b/c you have to constantly keep an eye on the little ones.
honestly have no idea what mine is made of, but I agree with Corey. We have the kind that has the grate around it with a door and you can take off if you want to, but I love it with the kids. We can still do marshmallows and that. It is also nice to keep things from blowing out.
Our's is steel. I like it alright b/c it has the grate that wraps around so that the little ones will keep their hands out. It has the door so we can add more wood and roast marshmallows, etc.
If I could I'd totally get the kind with the propane tank. I hate having to buy wood, etc. I'm too lazy for that business.
Ours has a removable top and I like that for fly away sparks and such. It has a door that opens to add wood and for marshmallows. Our is all black, which is the color they seem to end up eventually.

What are you looking at?
i havent really started looking. my friend sent me a link to target and i started looking, and i was like ????? i have no idea what i'm doing. thanks for the door suggestion (and corey) - very helpful.
this is why i never tried this -i worry about the kids a ton. i wonder if i should hold off.

oh sheesh - i ddint even think of the wood v. propane thing - aye yi yai this sounds like more trouble than i'm prepared for - LOL
I do not know if that has a door, but it is something like I have. My top does come off , but I also have a door. I just like that it is all contained. I mean it is not as pretty as some of the patio ones, but honestly they are not that safe with kids. My friends have those table one and you can put a grate over the top, but the kids lean on it, sit on it, etc and I have a heart attack.

Personally I would do wood.To me propane fire pits are not the same. I think Mike would like the whole wood experience, no?

yeah i can totally imagine my kids climbing all over the ledge kinds - but they are super nice..
i like this link (more than i wanted to spend though, at least right now)...

lmao. he would like the wood i think, but he would never use it unless he had the wood handy. i think i'm not ready for this. :)
do tree branches and whatnot not fall down in other people's yards?
i am lmao because we have never once had to resort to buying wood...we just send the kids out to scavenge around. maybe that is just the fun of living in the northeast.

I had to laugh. We have never bought wood either. We have huge old trees that are constantly dropping good kindling. We have plenty for as much as we use it. Then add in some paper and whalla.

yeah totally, good call. branches EVERYWHERE around here.
Diane, the one I got for Ed is similar to the one you picked out. I was going solely on looks. I figured if we were using a fire pit, I would have to be careful with the kids regardless of style. An

yeah that's the type i was originally looking at too. very pretty. i actually always imagined doing the fires after the kids were in bed (i have this vision of friends over at night, etc) - but then when someone mentioned roasting marshmallows i shifted gears - lol.
