Did you put up a christmas tree? Go to the parade? Tree lighting?
My neighbor next door(young couple) put up a tree and all the trimmings. I never did that before kids and I don't think I did it the first couple of years after Stephen was born. If it wasn't for Raven I wouldn't do any of it. Stephen doesn't care to do any of that and I know Ray doesn't. So I'm still stuck freezing my butt off at parades and christmas tree lightnings. The parade already happened and wasn't that bad but for the tree lightening it will be below freezing. They are also doing horse carriage rides and I know Raven will want to do that.
I'd say yes for most of it. I'm a sap for all that stuff.
Tree wise, we didn't always put one up - it would depend where we were living and what we would be doing around Christmas. We did put it up one year in Boston but mostly because we were feeling so trapped in the house with my crazy work. We spent two weeks at home (canada) at Christmas so most years we didn't get a tree.
I love Christmas parades (or any parade really) so I used to drag Mike or I went myself.
We could drink wine and listen to x-mas music and make an evening out of decorating the tree.
Since having kids I have to lock the tree up somewhere where the babies won't play in the water and break all the ornaments and sneak the decorating when they're not looking. LOL.
It's finally fun again now that they're all older, I love decorating with them finally.
I was always a big "drive around and look at people's x-mas lights person" too. Before and after kids.
Oh and holiday movies including cartoons. I've watched them all of my life.
I'm in love with Christmas, and so we've also decorated. I miss having all breakable ornaments, and being able to hang them on the lower half of the tree. (Now I can barely hang them at all because of our stupid tree-scaling cat).
I don't think we've ever been to a tree lighting. I hate the cold, and that hasn't changed since having Hannah, lol. We'll probably do more of going out and looking at lights, now that she's old enough to appreciate it, but I didn't even know about our town's tree lighting ceremony until it was already over, lol. Oops.

Ditto to all of this. It use to be so much more fun because I did it when I wanted and did not have to worry about doing why one is sleeping, etc. I still have time to get where you are, but I totally agree.
We already have gone on two Christmas light drives and hot chocolate nights. I love lights and I love this time of year.
we definitely did all the fun seasonal stuff before having kids.
lmao, but i remember the first teeny crappy apartment we had--we had this trio of pet goldfish...i bought these eensy weensy little stockings at the craft store and hung them from the side of their tank. my first babies
Yep I did all that. I actually do less now than I did before kids because I just don't have the time. But we do the most important like decorate, and make a visit to Santa and then I work in other activities if I can.
I've always loved loved loved decorating for Christmas!
Before having Meghan, it definitely involved more wine and intimate moments.
My Virgo self was also able to have more control over the whole process. I'll admit to almost having a panic attack watching Meghan go all willy-nilly decorating the gingerbread house last year. But I so enjoy having a little elf around to remind me what Christmas is all about.
Technically there was only a brief period of my adult life when I didn't have kids and my boyfriend at the time and I had an apartment and did put up a little christmas tree. After that I met and moved in with Quint and had two ready made kids.
I have absolutely no desire to decorate at all this year and I am trying to get over that LOL.
I guess I'm the odd one. Maybe it would be different if I met my DH before having kids. I think it is sweet seeing couple snuggling together at the parade.
When it comes to decorating we only do the tree. I have always let the kids decorate it. Right now all but 3 of the ornaments are located on the bottom half of the tree. I have 3 garlands and 1 is all around the tree(I did this one) and with the other 2 Raven didn't even bother with wrapping it around and stuck them in 1 spot. She is so proud of it.LOL
I hate being out in the cold so I only do the outdoor stuff because she loves it. Every tree she sees with lights on it is a christmas tree.

i always did the tree. when i was in a small apartment, i just did a teeny tabletop tree that was pre-lit and i tied red bows on it. i never went to christmas parades but i would always go to the night-time candlelit christmas shopping sort of things that my town would hold. before kids, we always went to the rockefeller tree lighting in the city too, and to this fancy italian place for dinner.
this year i brought R to her first christmas parade. we did the horse ride and the train ride, saw santa, the real reindeer, the whole bit. it was so cute. she also had her first starbucks hot chocolate (she looked like such a big girl holding it in one hand - so cute). it was nice to it just with her - C was home sleeping - i wish i had more time with them individually.

i toooooooootally agree wiht all of this - it seemed a little more fun before kids - mike and i love the holiday season and we always made everything REALLY special, with wine and fancy dinners and everything - now it's ... a lot of work and not very romantic. . but :heart
