How old is your mattress/box springs?

DH and I have both been waking up with back aches and are talking about getting a new mattress.  We have had it about 6 years . . .  that doesn't seem like that long to me - at least not long enough for it to be replaced.

It's a Sealy Posteurpedic plush top.

Maybe we're just getting to be old folks grandma.gif

Ours is 5 yrs. It's crap. We had a really good set that was just terrible for me - not comfortable. At some point I switched it out for our spare set, a real cheapo set that we quickly bought before my bff and family moved in with us when her house was selling.

I hate it. It is on my list (forever long list) of things that must be replaced.

one thing that did help enormously was to buy a really good memory foam pad. I find it tolerable right now and it helped my back (why I don't know).

We got one of those pillowtop mattress sets when SG was a baby and it still sleeps like it's brand new!

I used to wake up EVERY morning with a backache on our old mattress, so I feel your pain.

We've had ours for about 7 years.

It's one of those sleep number mattresses, and I effing hate it. I've been wanting to replace it for years. It kills my back.

Hmmm...I guess ours is about 9 years old. We got it when we got married.

I honestly haven't noticed much difference in it-we bought it at Sams club. (and I do have a foam topper-but just the cheap eggcrate thing-they didn't have the memory foam ones when I bought it, and i never switched)

Maybe I am not discerning enough. I know Bill isn't-but he is tired a lot-I bet he doesn't slee that well.

2 years old.

we had it made for us - they measured/weighed both bert and i (he is quite taller/heavier and likes a firmer mattress than i) and they basically fused 2 mattresses into 1 for us.  we need to flip it top-to-tale each seasonal change.

his side seems slightly firmer than mine, but he needs that because of his height/weight.

that way we both are happy!

i thing in general a mattress should be changed every 5-10 years, no?

in any case, you spend the most hours of your day there, its by far the most important piece of furniture in your house - take care of yourself and be sure you have a comfortable one!

Um you can send it to me. I HAD a sleep number bed until Quint took it two weeks ago. It was over 12 years old and I loved it. Now I have a twin mattress on my floor that my neighbor gave me LOL.

If you asked me this question a couple of months ago I would of said 8-10 years. My sister got a tempurpedic and gave us hers. Its made a huge difference in our comfort level.
