Megan, do you have Boxing Day in Lux? That is our crazy BF day. Here the stores are closed on actual boxing day (the day after christmas) but they open for boxing day sales on the 27th so people can spend all their christmas money and gift cards. and then all christmas wrap, ornaments, etc are on sale.
I'm doing a little bit of shopping online. My sister and one of my GFs went together and did my in-store bf shopping for me, and it was pretty much a bust. Super crazy, new organization going on which just made it worse, and all that. I only had a few things I really wanted, but the big item I was looking for (a barbie jet at Kohls) was gone - a lady a few people in front of my sister bought them all, which it's probably a good thing I didn't go, because I surely would have shanked her.
I went to Target and Lowes, my usual stops. I was at Target at 5:05 and they were still letting the line in! There I got a few 3.99 DVD's, a couple Bakugon items for a great price, 4 board games, and 2 vests. The bonus is I found the line at the jewlery counter instead of waiting in the insane check out lines.
Then I ran to Lowes because they have 5x7 area rugs for $25 and I get a new one for my entry every year. I got some things for our business for cheap and I got Mark and my Dad a light. Lowes is never busy. I was back in bed before 7!
i went. the new way walmart is doing things sucks. usually they open the doors and people grab what they want and get in line to pay.
this year, they opened the doors an hour before they were officially "opening" and there were ticket lines for the hot items. everything else was considered "grab and go"...i have done black friday for years and have always got to walmart at 4:15-4:30 for a 5am opening and always got what i wanted (i never want the tvs/computers anyways). this year since they opened the doors early, they decided to let people who wanted grab and go items (sale stuff that wasn't an electronic) fill up their carts prior to 5am. the registers didn't turn on until 5am--so when i got there a little after 4am people already had full carts and were in line to pay, waiting for the registers to open.
usually i am in and out w/in 15 minutes. this year i got in line to pay at 5:30am and at 7:20 with 5 people left in line in front of me, dave called and said he needed to leave for work in 15 minutes. i was so not leaving a cart full of stuff after 2 hours in line! thank God, the manager came over then and booted the elderly man cashier and replaced him with someone younger. the line finally started moving and i was home by 7:38.
there was a bunch of stuff i couldn't get--the $69 kodak was gone, the ds games for $7--the only one in stock had "cartoon violence and nudity" (ummm, no thanks), and they didn't even get the $5 new moon board games in stock at all.
so, all that time for a ton of $3 disney pjs, $2 dvds, and some non-sale odds and ends. i couldn't believe that i can usually hit kohls, walmart, toys r us, and target in less than the time it took me just to pay at walmart today with their new and "improved" organization system!
it was still worth it for the people watching though! i love the ones who are doing it for the first time saying loudly "why are all these people here!" oh, and the lady with a very newborn baby in a sling--not the best new mother idea, atleast not at a place like walmart!!

at least this year no one died from getting stampeded....

we celebrate boxing day on the 26th and everything is closed that day.
there are "january sales" in mid january, but nothing at all like black friday. in fact, i never see as many sales in Europe. it just doesn't really happen... ihni where all the unused merchandise goes. maybe to poorer countries for the next year? (ie lux gets the best stuff, then it gets sold in, say, portugal, a year later? :dunno)
to me, all these sales in the US just says that everything is totally overpriced the rest of the year.

honestly, now that people know that they will let you in at 4am and fill your carts, it will be back to waiting in line and running in to do that next year, imo...just an hour earlier, kwim?
i actually found people to be more irate than usual because they were so frustrated that they were stuck in line so long.
Corey, I didn't experience my Wal-Mart at the butt crack this morning, but I do know they were open ALL night! So people figured out where certain deals were and lined up at them! I don't know what the price was but someone I ran into at KMart told me people had been lined up for a PS3 system since 0130! I guess it was pretty chaotic. We hit Kohl's first and the checkout line went from the registers all the way down the left side of the store, all the way along the back and when I couldn't find the end of the line I put my two items down LOL! I'm glad this year that with the exception of the zhu zhu which i'm pretty sure there were 0 in my town, that I didn't want anything super bad! It's frustrating and scary too!
This was my first year having an easy time. My brother got a camera and a GPS, and I got the movies I wanted. I didn't see any good DS games, but did get all of the toys.
The lines were moving pretty good in our store, though we made the horrible mistake of doing the self check. Every damn item that offered a warranty had to be overridden by a cashier. A woman in an adjacent line had, no joke, 20 TomToms and 25 digital frames. So the cashier had to manually override every.single.one. Once they found someone else to help him out, we flew. I was in and out in 45 min, and I went through the whole store.
I think I might hit Target later, looking for jammies for Dani and George. Not sure though, I'm still tired and I just drug out all of our Christmas stuff!

you can get it online. I'm pretty sure it's the same one as the one that was advertised.
We don't do Black Friday. We have no patience and horrid tempers. That wouldn't mix at the crack of dawn with crazed Christmas shoppers....Yeah...We'd make the news somehow..Besides, I love my sleep wayyyyyy tooooooo much to crawl out of bed before the sun even thought of doing it.
Thanksgiving was great! I prepared our first traditional meal as a little foursome. It was freaking awesome! The turkey was awesome! I'm so proud of myself.
I've been making Chrismons for our church's Advent tree/Christmas tree. I really got to it last night. It wasn't working so well. So out of desperation I busted out the hot glue gun. And wowzers! I made the most beautiful Iota Chi's and latin cross!! I'm so damn proud of myself. I'm ready to do it again only I was watching Weeds last night and there's something about watching a show about drugs while making religious symbols...I dunno. But it helped to have that background chatter and distraction to keep me focused..
That made no sense but you've never seen me work IRL..LMAO. Trust me. It works.
I went to bed @ 1:30 this morning but couldn't get to sleep. Sucks.
Its windy. 35mph winds and I saw snow flakes earlier. We aren't going anywhere. A friend of our's is home sick. His wife and kids are out of town so we told him to come on over. Every one else here is sick except me...I tease DH that its b/c I got my H1N1 he just rolls his eyes.
Back to the grind. I've got another 1000 beads to run through by Sunday. :)

My walmart and the one my sister works at were open all night. Basically my sister stands at a pallet of sale items to guard them and cut off the wrapping at 5 am. I went to my walmart at 3pm(for something I needed) and they still had a bunch of sale items.
