well, bertrand and i have successfully avoided the subject for a full seven months. (we have the HARDest time agreeing to any of our kids names...)
so this weekend while were were enjoying long romantic dinners in switzerland we bit the bullet, dragged out the iphone internet and started planning names.
we got NOWHERE!
and to top it off, we have to choose both boys and girls name...
we only got really into boys names. everything i liked (i am thinking more classic regal names...) was shot down - Edward, William...
Bertand's choice?
Achilles (pronounced ASH-eel)
Serge (pronounced SAYER-zhe)
Erwin (pronounced AIR-veen)

my little neighbor girl is named Iris, and i think it is a really cute name. pronounced like eeee-ris. not sure if it is just dutch or if it is common in other areas of europe, but it is adorable. that is what i choose for your daughter. hahah
My great-grandmother was French and she was named after the Spanish Saint Leocadia. When they said her name it was pronounced LaCadia or Cadie for short. I loved this name and would have given it to Lauren or Anna (at least for a middle name) but I didn't find out about it until after they were born.
I also have another family friend grandmother Margarrite and I love her name as well, although I'm not sure that fits the nationality you are looking for.
I also have a friend named Michaelyn which is a variation of Michael and Michelle. ???

the bold: isnt your name margaret? i ADORE that name. my sister used it as her daughter's middle name. and i think it's one of those names that's very multi-cultural - like elizabeth - just sort of has a variation in every language.
what's on your girl list?
boys - i'm with you on the regal classics (i would have used william or benjamin - not that that one is regal, but it's a classic) -
we had parisian neighbors for a few years recently, and their 10 yr old son was named erwin - the daughter was roman (not sure how to spell it - pronounced ro-MAN with the french sounding N at the end - sorry i know no french so i dont know how to explain!!) - i LOVED both the names. erwin fit him so nicely - he was such an outgoing kid and just an absolute JOY. the parents were robin and sophie.
you'll find something great. but i understand. male french names have never been my thing. good luck. naming kids is brutal.

When we were pregnant, we tried think of good French/English names, but all the ones that I LOVED in French sounded AWFUL in English. Perfect example: Agnes. No offense to any Agnes' out there, but in English that name is all nasal and somewhat harsh. In French, it is soft and beautiful---Awhn-YES. Sigh. I hope you guys came up with something that makes you both happy---it is a challenge!

Another French name that I think is pretty (if you like Colette): Carine. You can have "Carrie" as a nickname, and it is pretty and English and French. There's always Chloe, too, if you like that route and want to stick with Cs. :)
We didn't name Andrew until he was 4 days old. I was still in the hospital, and they were like, it's your last day, we need this paperwork filled out! LOL. We were really leaning towards Alexander. But, it just didn't seem to fit. KWIM? I don't know why. Andrew just seemed perfect for him. We did drive our family crazy taking so long. In the womb, he was Charlie Brown. He had a huge head!
I really like the "classic" names, like Edward, Andrew, Daniel... I wanted to name him Edward while I was pregnant, but don't like Eddie, and didn't want people shorting it. May use it as a middle name this time around. The Russian thing is to name the baby's middle name, the Dad's first name. So my dh and his brother both have the same middle name. I went with it for Andrew, Andrew Stephen is nice, but I don't think I'll have that happen this time.
For a girl, I love Elizabeth, but while I was pregnant with Andrew, the name Lauren really grew on me, so I was thinking Lauren Elizabeth.
