I think I'm drying up :(

Kenley will be 10 months old eyepopping.gif Thursday.  I still nurse her 4-5 times a day, and I only pump on Wednesdays while I'm at work.

For the past two weeks, I haven't been able to get very much out, only about 3 oz.  I just tried to pump a minute ago, and only got 2 ounces cry  It's been almost 2 hours since she ate last and I used to get more than that.

Can I supplement with formula for these last two months without messing her tummy up?  What kind of formula?

I don't know what to do

I had almost no pumping supply by 10 or 11 months but could still breastfeed with no problem. The only time I could really pump and get anything after 10 months was if I was away and couldn't nurse.

Are you just worried about Wednesdays or are you worried about nursing her too?

I don't know anything about formula so I won't be any help there.

You can supplement and she should be fine. Are you thinking of still BF and just supplementing on the Wed? If so I do not see that really messing her up much.

I use Good Start because it was the only one that Mia could handle.

that's exactly how I am.  I'm just concerned about Wednesdays when I'm not here.

I don't know what to give her.

Yes, just on Wednesdays, which would be 2 bottles.  I nurse her before I leave, and then mom gives her 2 bottles while I'm gone.

I've been reading and I've seen Good Start and the Enfamil gentle ease mentioned on several occasions.

Jenn - 10 months is almost exactly when I had to start supplementing.  I was pumping 3 days a week while at work and at 10 months there was a decrease in my ability to pump enough.  I tried the Fenugreek, more water, etc.   nothing really helped me.

I just started using the samples that I'd been mailed or gotten from the hospital and really did trial and error until I found the formula that worked best for them.

you've done great work these last 10 months!  plus, you can keep going when you two are together - that is what we did up until 1 year.

I'm pretty sure I used the Good Start with Jake and the Enfamil with Kate.

Do you have any frozen that you could mix a bit of formula with the breastmilk to ease her into it?  What I did for a few weeks was mix BM with F - more BM to start and just taper down until it was all formula.

2 oz. is actually a respectable amount to pump, especially if you aren't exclusively pumping!  It doesn't sound like you are drying up at all - that would be very unlikely if you are still nursing regularly and not malnourished and/or dehydrated.

A couple of questions:
What kind of pump are you using?  If it is a Medela, have you changed the white membranes on the flanges lately?  They are supposed to be changed every 3 months (who knew???).

Are you pumping first thing in the morning?  That's when you should be producing the most.

If you only need 2 bottles for one day a week, you could pump a little each day and save it up, right?  And could your mom give her some solids during that time if you don't have enough milk?

It's not a medella, it's an ameda? I think..  I pumped about 2 hours after she ate this morning.

I could pump a little every day, that would work.  I'm also thinking about the times, like this Friday night, when we go out.  I'll never get enough milk for Wednesday and Friday, lol.

I bought some Wal-Mart brand gentle formula a while ago.  I don't know if I'll try it yet  I'm still mulling it over.

Thanks for everyone's input heart.gif
