I may have missed it, but can you "roll" your catalinas?  for example, if i earn 30.00 in catalinas, can i use that money to buy more qualifying food and earn another 15.00?

also, when using them, do you have to separate them and do stores limit?

tia!!

well, i can answer the first part - yes you can roll them.  yesterday i spent $22 and got $15 in cats.  today i will go back and do 2 separate transactions.  i'll use the cats to pay for the first transaction, earn more cats, and use those cats to pay for the 2nd.

i've started a ss where i track the item, quantity, price (my store only counts sale price, so i just use the ad), deduct the coupon and then track price out of pocket.  i keep a running total of sale price total and oop total.  my goal is to hit the $30 without going over $15 oop so i am not paying anything for these runs now that i'm rolling.  does that make sense?

also, my store is doubling internet coupons.  if they do that today (my ss doesn't account for that b/c technically they're not supposed to and may not today), my oop total will be way less - almost half.  so i'll use $10 in cats to earn another $15, plus have another $5 leftover.  i will start using those leftovers to buy things outside the sale items - milk, produce, etc.

i just hand over the cats with my regular coupons b/c i know how many they will need.  i read them last night and i didn't see anything printed on them about limits.

my store has been SUPER helpful and supportive.  the guy actually told me yesterday "i know our prices are higher than XYZ store, so i want people to get the best deal here."

i plan on hitting that store everyday this week for 2 transactions.  i will be stocking up as much as i can until i can't get anymore internet printables for the items on sale.

hth!

Thanks April!

That is sooooo helpful. I found a st. louis blog where the lady basically explains exactly how to do it and what stores have what sale and what coupons to use, etc.

we have shop n save here that has a no coupon thursday where they give $10.00 off of$50 and they allow you to separate it into two separate transactions (so you get $20.00 off of $100).

I cannot wait to pair that up w/ coupons and hopefully catalinas!

we should all keep a list of our deals for motivation :)

that's great liz!

i was thinking the same about tracking our deals.  corey has really inspired a bunch of us!  matt couldn't believe what i carried in today - plus, i spent $8 oop but got a $15 cat for next visit, which means i made $7!!!!

he's even talking about building some shelves in the basement so we can stock up!

on some of the coupon threads, they keep a running total of what they've saved so far this year.  i was thinking about doing the same!

are the catalinas for specific items, or are they a dollar amount to be used toward next purchase?

how do they accrue? meaning, do you have to buy qualifying items to earn these?

they can be any of those.

sometimes you will get a coupon for a future purchase of an item you bought or a similar item.  for example, tonight i got a coupon for $1/4 knorr rice sides b/c i bought 3 of them tonight.  another time, you might get a $1 an uncle ben rice which buying another brand of rice triggered.  kwim?

sometimes you will get a cat b/c you bought 3 of a participating item. a few weeks ago, the pasta sauce i bought was buy 3, get $2.50 off your next order (or something like that), so i stocked up then b/c i also took advantage of the sale price and coupons.

the cat that a lot of us are talking about right now is buy $30 of participating products and get $15 off your next order (in the form of 3 cat worth $5 each).

lmk if that helps.

yes that helps. thanks, April!

one more question...how do you know ahead of time what the qualifying items are? does it say in the store ads, or would that be more specific to the websites?

my store is acme this week.  on the back page, the entire page was about this cat deal with pictures of all the items that qualified and their sale prices.  i referenced that all week.  i had the paper copy, but you can see it online too.  :)

walmart is tricky b/c they're so big.

is there another grocery store near you that you just haven't tried?

ahhh!  sooo much better those 2!

kroger has special deals on their website that connect to their saver card.

here are the links to those 2 forums on AFC.

there's a lot there, but just go a little at a time.  i started just with the ad threads and then expanded to check out the other deals they had posted.

so let me ask you this - am I better off shopping at one of these two than WalMart?

I did call Kroger today to ask if they double and they do every day up to .50.

Honestly, I hate both of those stores (Kroger and Meijer) but I'm willing to give it a go if it means the savings ya'll are having.

The real reason I shop WalMart is b/c I can get diapers and hygiene items all in one place.  I do not buy meat there though - that is why I go to Marsh.  In our area Marsh is more expensive - in terms of grocery stores it is high end in comparison to WalMart, Kroger or Meijer.  So I know that when I go there I do not intend to buy things like jumbo double jars of Jiff or cereal - they are just ridiculously overpriced in comparison.  But the store is clean and well staffed whereas Kroger is definitely not.

i guess it just depends, honestly.

i mean, walmart doesn't double coupons.  so if you have a 50c off coupon, walmart's price on XYZ ihas to be more than 50c less than the same item at kroger where they double.  plus, kroger might be doing a cat deal like my store is doing, which walmart does not do.

i know it's confusing.  i would just suggest that you peruse the kroger thread and see how much free or almost free stuff people are scoring.  if it's a lot, than you'd be better off going there.

Do you have more than one Kroger near you? I have two that are within 5 miles of my house and several more that are not too far.

I'm just asking because the one that is closest to my house (mile-wise) is always crowded, messy, and I can never find anything. The other one that is close is clean, rarely crowded, organized, and the employees are all super-helpful and nice. I heart.gif my Kroger. I've always liked them better than WM just because they don't make you unload your cart and bag up your own stuff. Most of the employees at the Walmarts around here are sooo RUDE and lazy. My mom gets mad and swears she'll never shop there again pretty much every time she shops there. lol.

Maybe you find a better Kroger near you?
