matt always makes fun and rolls his eyes at me b/c i skip the first chapter of finding nemo when i put it on for emily & jake.  i always start with nemo jumping on his dad telling him it's "time for school."

am i the only one who skips the part about the mom dying?  also, matt insists that we don't know for sure that she died.  she might have run away from home.  etc.  etc.  :eyeroll:  giggle.gif

I think Matt is on to something.

Marlin is kind of annoying.

Maybe she ran away with a cooler clown fish.

So I used to always skip that first chapter.

For all 3 kids.

Then I wrote that on here once and a few people said that they never skip that chapter and their kids should see all the good and bad and so I decided to start showing it to Sarah about a year ago and it has never bothered her.

There are kids that would be sad/scared for sure though so I guess you just have to deal with it on a kid to kid basis.

i thought this had been discussed before, but i couldn't find it in a search (maybe it was on the old board).

i always assume that nemo's mom was wayyyy cooler than marlin.  but i also think that the loss of his wife knocked marlin for a loop and he's not been quite the same since.

i like to call him the log man.

I have never skipped the first part, but IDT they even put it together that she is dead. IDK. They never mention it. They used to think that part was a little bit scary, but tbh, it has never really bothered them.

It is so curious to me because Anna will NOT watch Monsters Inc at all, and is afraid of Lucifer the cat in Cinderella, but doesn't care that Nemo's mom was lunch.

 Oh, oh Supa.

I used to skip the first scene of Monsters Inc. with my boys.

I knew there were a few other movies that I'd skip scenes on.

When they got older I wouldn't skip it anymore but they weren't really interested in the movie anymore either.

I always skip the first scene. Maybe it bothers me more than her that ALL of the offspring are lost except one. :(

Then I learned that Kyle never skips that scene. *sigh* so its not like they havent seen it. lol.

i skip that scene also. i just feel like kids little enough to watch & enjoy finding nemo don't really need to think about a mom disappearing forever.

I'm a non-skipper. There isn't a single movie that I skip a scene. Unless it's when they're not looking and I want it to end sooner and they're too old for that now because they notice.

I've never skipped parts of the kids movies.

When Damon was about 3-4yo one of his favorite movies was "Fox and Hound". One day out of the blue he got really uspet watching when the old lady drove Tod (fox) into the woods and dropped him off...Tod was so sad and Damon just had a meltdown! I explained to him that foxes are wild animals and belong in the woods, but he wasn't having it. ANYWAY....for weeks after that he would get visibly upset at that part of the movie. I tried to just shelve that particular movie for awhile but THAT meltdown was worse than him being upset during that part of the movie. honestly, I never even considered skipping that part, it just was never something I ever even thought of.

With Daniel and movies, he gets cuddly during certain parts of movies, but i never think to fast forward....he'd probable get mad if i did anyway LOL

I thought of a movie I skip scenes in. Willy Wonka and the Charlie Factory the original one I skip scenes until they are at Wonka's candy store.

See, maybe I should try that.

The problem is that Kate likes those things-I think she would be annoyed if I skipped part, lol.

I wouldn't mind expanding our repertoire.  We don't watch that many movies, but when we do, we watch the same couple over and over and over and over and over and well...you get the point.

When do kids lose interest in these movies?  So far, they have been behind where other kids are in terms of the level of maturity they like in their TV (Anna asks me to turn Spongebob off if it comes on-she doesn't like it at.all. and much prefers things like Miss Spider and Wow Wow Wubbzy-and Kate still adores Little Bear!), but IHNI when they will get to be "too old" for these movies.  I love Disney movies!!

 That's funny.

I skip all the way to the scene before they enter the chocolate factory.

Seriously what kid wants to hear the mom sing Cheer Up Charlie.

zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz!

Nemo is one of the few Disney movies Lucas has never gotten into so we don't own it. We rented it once and he saw it at a friends. The beginning didn't seem to bother him those two times.
