Well, Kate just had a swab test and it was confirmed she has the flu type A, they presume H1N1, though they can't test for that in their office.

He said Anna (who is back to normal today and at my mom and dad's house-I am praying she is done with it and doesn't suddenly get worse again) and Bill likely have/had the same thing.

The reason I took Kate in though was her temp this morning went up to 104.6, then 105.2 then back down to 104.8.  It has since lowered a ton (she is back to 101.7), but needless to say, that freaked me out.  Because her fever *was* so high, he prescribed Tamiflu (though he said good luck finding it) for her, but IDK.  It will have been 48 hours by this afternoon since this started (she has had a low grade before now), so IDK that I want to give it to her when I am not sure it will help much anyway, kwim?  Ugh-the decisions.

So far I had one day (Tuesday) that I felt bad, but it was short lived.  I never even had a temp-I am praying I don't end up catching it too!!!

Anyway, prayers that we get over this quickly would be fabulous, if have some to spare!

Ugh. I'm hoping this is very mild for you guys.

Feel better soon, Kate (and Bill).

I called Laurrrrra, Laurrrra... and you didn't come.

Supa I am so sorry you are having to deal with this too.  Elizabeth had scary high fevers too.  Just so you know, the first couple of days the temps were up and down and up again.  We did give E the tamiflu and I think it did help her get over it faster.  I will warn you that is is extremely nasty tasting stuff and had a hard time getting E to take it (we didn't do the entire five days because I couldn't get it in her anymore.)  I hope Kate's fever is short lived and that all of you are on the mend.  pray.gif

Anna's fever waxed and waned as well, but hers was lower.  IDT it ever went as high as Kate's, though I can't be sure.  Kate's temp has been up and down too, but it was low grade before today.

I don't think we are going to do the Tamiflu.  I know i might live to regret that, but it has already been almost 48 hours, and by the time I could get it and get it to her, it will have been over that.  I am going to try some other approaches and just keep a watchful eye.  Hopefully I don't regret this decision...

I said "I was concerned when I saw it that they have a camera in our house. the only difference is that you wear a hoodie with the hood up. and you'd call 911"

lmao

He said he would still recommend  the vax.  Mostly because while they presume it is H1N1, they don't KNOW, and he feels like it can't hurt to get it.  I guess even if they do have it now (which all signs point to, obviously), the strain could change and they could get it again.

However, they are also very open about the fact that all of their H1N1 vax doses are prepared with thermisol.  So since I was on the fence about it before, I am thinking we should skip it.  That could end up being another choice I regret, but there you have it.

They were not happy with me that I hadn't given her tylenol or motrin. (at least the nurse asked me why I hadn't with obviously distain in her voice) I was going to, but wanted to talk with them first, and then her temp started going down. I try not to medicate for fevers unless I have to...

I can see your point about the tamiflu.  It sounds like she can also manage to keep tylenol and/or motrin down so you should be fine.  Keep us updated!

Well, Anna had it and Bill has it, lol.  I felt like crap on Tuesday-felt like I had the flu, but never ran a temp, and now I am feeling ok, so we'll see about me.

The high fevers are definitely scary!  Thankfully it is now staying in the 101 range.

Thanks Libby.  Both my girls love tylenol and motrin, lol.  They sometimes try to fake ailments to see if they can get some.

I didn't give Anna anything for fever during the duration of her illness.  I did give her some delsym for cough, but that was it.  And I hadn't given Kate anything either-until just now she asked for some when I put her down to try and rest, so I gave her some tylenol.  Poor thing didn't want to be alone, but wouldn't sleep with me in there anyway.  I am giving her a few minutes and we'll see what happens.  If she doesn't sleep, I'll go get her and she can rest on me down here or something.  So funny how different they are-Anna just wanted to go right to bed and then she slept for like 3 hours.  Kate doesn't want to be in her bed at all!

So sorry, Supa.

I hope she gets some rest and to feeling better. Have you at least gave her some motrin/tylenol now?

Bryce complained about his head and body aches so I know those medicines will help ease some of their discomfort. Bryce's fever wasn't that severe. Keegan fluctuated from 101-103 for just over 2 days before he finally knocked it. But I will say I think the Tamiflu helped both of them tremondously. Though Keegan spit half of his back up especially when he was feverish.

No she wasn't tested-but aside from the severity of the fever, her symptoms were the same as Kate's, as are Bill's (except he is also achy and has chills), and from talking to a few other moms at the school, their sick kids presented the same way as well.  So the pedi said that he would bet money that Anna had had the same thing.

They told me the fevers they have been seeing with this haven't been all that high.  Kate's is the highest they have had, which is why they wanted to get her right in.

:dunno:

Thanks Sara.  I am sorry you know what it is like to deal with!!

I did give her some tylenol before rest.  Hopefully it will help her settle in and get some sleep, we'll see.  Neither of mine have complained about their heads or any aches-Bill has though.  He said his head hurts and has been for a couple of days, and he has been achy and all that.

Anna's was more like you are describing.  Her fever was lower, but lasted a number of days.  Kate is already at the 2 day mark here and isn't handling it as well as Anna did, it seems.  Had we caught this right away, I probably would have done the Tamilfu, BUT based on how they are prescribing it here, they probably wouldn't have offered it since when this first presented, both of them had low fevers.

IDK-so many variables, so much worry.  For now I am just keeping a close eye on her.

Well then it's totally different down here, because they've all had high fevers, exactly like Kate's

Which I knew when Kenley's fever never got higher than 101.6 that it wasn't the flu..  and it wasn't, it's just a virus according to her lab work.

Which makes me wonder...down here, the fevers are high, typical of the flu..but they're telling you that the fevers haven't been that high

So is it the same dang H1N1?

I truly don't know.  I do know it is the flu of some kind, but unless they were testing all of these (which they aren't-at least in my area, they just can't do that), we'll never really know what it is.

I was surprised too because while Kate's fever was scary high to me, I figured they would be dealing with a lot of that, but they haven't.  It has been more like Anna's and what Sara said about Keegan-101-103 ranges.

I have no idea what to make of any of this, I really don't.
