Getting them to smile nicely?

The girls have school pics tomorrow.  Anna's smile these days is SOOOOOO cheesy and awful.

Any tips to get her to smile nicely and not like a big cheeseball???

With Hannah a few months ago, we had to resort to, "Smile how you'd smile when you tell Santa the present you want." or "Smile how you smile when you get a new LPS." and she could do that. Then we just asked her to smile like that for her birthday picture.

But, if she doesn't - don't fret. I love the goofy faces that kids make. It's such a super short phase, and it makes a great story. Hannah's absolutely making the weirdest pose and facial expression in her class picture, and you can bet your bum I'm going to be pulling it out when she's older!

Great idea!!!  I'll try it.

And I'll be sure to be prepared to send the pic into Ellen one day, lmao.

Well, when I'm there I usually bribe them. (Terrible, huh?) Smile nicely and I'll give you no-nos! (M&Ms) That works for Gavin. I am nervously awaiting his school pics because I asked him to show me how he smiled and it's well, um, interesting. Can't wait to see them.

OMG Kelly, your pics made me crack up! When I asked Gavin to show me the smile he did it is this weird closed mouth smile where his normal smile is showing his teeth. I don't know, it's just super unnatural and goofy looking. I wish you could see the pics before you buy the package, ya know?

you cant??? we totally get to see them first. i'm always tempted to just scan them but i feel SO guilty so i never would do that.
i am so excited to see R's. when i asked her after the fact how she smiled, she did a nice smile - so i'm hoping....
i think they get them to sort of laugh a bit so hopefully it's natural looking.

ME TOO!!  I think it's hilarious!!

Laura, I know you want the perfect picture, but honestly, I think I'd just let her smile the way she normally smiles.  There will be plenty of time for "fake smiles" later, lol

All of my kids (including Sarah at pictures today) have gone through the cheesy smile phase.

There's NOTHING you can do about it.

You can only laugh 20 years from now when looking at their school pictures and say, "oh yeah, that was your cheesy smile phase."

My boys both grew out of it my the next year's pictures.

Thankfully Raven won't smile unless she is in the mood so I will probably get the Raven look which I like better than a cheesy smile. Raven's(and Stephens) is always prepaid and I have been very happy with them.

Honestly, I'm also in the camp of thinking the goofy smiles are cute. But, I would buy a smaller picture package if that were the case, kwim? :)

maybe going through the emotions with her (what face do you make when you are happy?, etc.) and then when picture time rolls around, do a modified version of that so it looks more natural...kwim?

eta that I can't get Ivy to smile at all in pics.  she is smiling in the one in my siggy because she was so happy (she was putting a happy birthday crown on our dog) :eyeroll
