A brag on Jack (and myself)

Homework has always been such a struggle for Jack. He just wants to play and hang out after school and it's a constant battle in our house. It exhausts me.

He's also had trouble with reading and spelling through the years but he got extra help and we pushed the spelling studying like crazy in 2nd grade and by 3rd grade he was doing great.

Now in 4th grade the work and homework have gotten crazy. NOTHING like when we were in 4th grade. I don't even think we had homework. LOL. So I've been cracking down like crazy and feel like all I do is nag him and I feel kind of bad for him.

Welllll, this is the first year that they are eligible for the honor roll and guess who made it for the first quarter?

YAY!!!!

This is a terrible thing to say but I never thought Jack would be an honor roll student.

I feel like not only has his hard work paid off, but sticking to my guns with the homework has paid off too.

It's so much easier some nights to just say screw it and trust that he's doing his homework and not nag. Of course those are the nights he blows it off too.

So just thought I'd share since I don't have Jack brags often.

Kristi, that is AWESOME!! Jake started 4th grade this year, too - and the homework (and school work in general) has really gone to the next level! What a huge difference from 3rd grade, right? Jake has always been a good student, but this year he has to make an extra effort to get the grades. Last year he did well with hardly any effort. I think they are already getting ready for middle school. I hear 7th grade homework is RIDICULOUS!!

Ugh I know, I was recently talking to my next door neighbor who has a 7th grader. I was saying that I never see him outside anymore. She was telling me how crazy the homework is. They finally had to get a tutor to come in twice a week for 2 hours a time to help him with it all. They both work full time and long hours so they don't have hours a night to help him. I can totally see a tutor in our future, especially since math is already starting to go over my head in 4th grade. LMAO!

LMAO!

I think Dorian pushes little Jack pretty hard with his algebra and book reports too though.

yay, WTG - Jack.

This is great. You must be proud. Boys do tend to bloom later academically. This may be the start of a new Jack.

It is crazy how much homework kids get these days.
