I barely have a choice.

I work with college students and it is just short of mandated that I get vaccinated.

I also have to spend two days in a mass vaccination clinic in our gym on campus for the entire community. I will literally have contact with thousands of people coming to campus to be vaccinated. I'm not too excited at the pace expectations of 300 vaccinations an hour for 9 hour days, longer if there is a line at close.

We are also expecting a spike in cases since our students are going home for fall break this week and bring back all sorts of germies.

(also, it is inhaled, not a shot. To my knowledge at least).

Travis will get it due to his asthma, he is high-risk. Tristen will get a non-thimersol version. More than likely, we will pass on Koda. He is too big for the thimersol-free one now, and i am uncomfortable with the additive (totally personal).

UGH. IHNI. I was a definite no, but now there has been a confirmed case at my neighbor's daughter's preschool (in her class, no less), and my BFF has had a confirmed case in her PreK class as well, and has a few other kids who have been out all week.

AND someone said today that they heard that one of my other neighbor's daughter's (who is middl school, I think?) has it too.

I just don't know what to do...

I'm still slightly on the fence, leaning heavily towards a no. I get really solid in my opinion, and then I waiver, then go back to being really firm.

Hannah just got Flumist, so it gives me another 30 days to think about it, since she can't the h1n1 vaccine within 30 days of Flumist (or vice versa).

no, but i barely got the reg one and it was a mist as well. i hear its made the same way as the regular flu vax so im not opposed to the kids maybe getting it.

idk, i think its just another form of the flu so im not too worried about catching it either these days.

i'm not big on flu shots.
i'm 90% sure i wont be getting h1n1 for my kids.
but then again, i stress about it, and am not totally decided.

The boys will be getting it as soon as it is available for them to get. Gavin gets croup so often so when he gets sick, he gets really sick and I'd hate to see the combo. Not that he WON'T get it for sure but with him being in preschool, I do want to get it. I really value my pediatrician's opinion and he is telling us to get it for the boys so I am going to.

I work in a child care center, we see 80 kids a day not including siblings, staff and parents. I am going to get it if I can. I need to go and get the regular flu shot ASAP too. The boys got the regular flu shot already.

No, we won't be getting it.

I'm reasonably sure that Mason had H1N1 in May, but the doctor didn't test him for it. He had all the symptoms, and then John and I got very sick with gastrointestinal symptoms. Evie never had any symptoms, but because she was with me the whole time, she got antibodies from my breastmilk.

We won't be getting the regular flu shot either.

BTW, the flu mist H1N1 vaccine (as well as the seasonal flumist) sheds because it is a live virus, so it is possible to transmit the virus after receiving the vaccine.

Definitely not. I never get the regular flu shot, either. I seriously don't think it's as big of a deal as it's made out to be compared to the regular flu.

for now, it is not a choice because we can't get it here. maybe that will change, but i'm happy that i don't have to have this choice on my shoulders. it makes me so nervous.

i can' t remember the last time i had the flu - perhaps not ever? i usually get sinus infections that are treated with antibiotics...

i just don't know. the regular flu shot is mandatory for us (speaking of, my kids have gotten it but dan & i have not) because of mikey, so i'm not sure how his doctors will decide on this. then i have to decide for myself. we can't do flumist or the nasal vaccines at all because they are live viruses and with mikey's immune system it could be baaaaad news.

i am like leah where i end up being a firm no then always waiver on if it is right or wrong.

i talked to the boys pediatrician. he has 4 children himself and does not vaccinate them with the regular flu shot either. he said unless the child has health issues or breathing problems he would not do it. and that is where we stand.

ditto to all of this. the pediatricians in my practice do not vax their kids either, even with regular flu shots. they really only recommend these vaccinations if there are other health issues.

No. It's too new. I've also heard it's got Thirmosil (sp?) which we know isn't good. I don't usually do flu shots either.

I'm not sure what we are going to do. It isn't available here until November so we have some time.

Charlie and Jo are at a university daycare and Mike is a university professor so we are definitely in the high risk to get category.

The university just had their first confirmed case this week.

I am wondering if by time the vacine is available here, it will be too late and we will have already had the flu.

Decisions decisions.

There has been an unpublished study in canada about people who got the regular flu shot last year were more likely to get the H1N1 flu. This hasn't been the case in the rest of the world but it has "proven" true in Canada for some reason. It's interesting. We didn't get the flu shot last year (or the flu).

So much to think about.

I talked to Addie's pediatrician about it. (I LOVE this woman! I was in another exam room for my BP check-up and getting a rescue shot for my migraine and she came in to show me her growth percentiles and to find out if I had any questions) Anyway- I told her my hesitance about it and she said that there so far haven't been any adverse reactions and she recommended that DH, Colin, and I get vaccinated to protect Adelaide. She assured me that there haven't been any adverse reactions but I'm not sure.
With as many school children as we're exposed to and as many people as DH is exposed to at work right now I'm thinking it wouldn't be such a bad idea for us. I'm not sure about Colin. I worry about new vaccines. I'm at a crossroads- Do I trust what my doctors are telling me or do I follow my own fears?

So to answer your question- I have no idea.

The flu shot we'll probably get but DH. He always gets viciously sick after the flu shot. He said when he was in the Navy and had to get vaccinated it made it ill so he refuses to get it. B/C my immune system isn't great I might just to keep from getting sick.

I didn't know about that. I have gotten flu shots sometimes but not every year, I really don't stress about flu shots and only get it when I remember lol As far as I know, flu shots have not made any difference for me or for Christopher in the past.
