Morning!

What was the last fun, FREE event that you attended?

Or when is the next one you plan to attend?

Old 97's concert back at the end of July during Bele Chere 2009.

Bele Chere is our city's annual festival. Don't get the purpose but whatever. It was a free concert by our favorite band so we were down! :)

I guess it matters on how you define "event" but I would have to say we went to the Corn Festival here, but it was short lived.

My morning is starting off right.  My dh is in the kitchen cleaning. biggrin

We went to the farmer's market downtown last weekend and it was awesome. It could have been free but we stayed so long we had to pay parking and bought so much food! But technically it was free. And totally fun.

Other than church things which I attend once or twice a month, I went to a band concert in the park back in June or July, I can't remember exactly when.  It was a blast.  They played the Harry Potter theme which was really neat.

I don't have anything I'm planning on attending yet.  I usually only find out about things a day or two in advance, except for church things which I usually get at least a couple week's notice for.

ETA: I forgot about the Pioneer Day parade on the 24th of July.  We go to that every year.

Hi!

I just got back from the zoo with Henry and Mark.

It's not technically free because the yearly zoo pass costs $79, but my parents bought that for us, so it was free for us.

And this afternoon, there is a free kid-friendly concert at Overton Park (the park that encompasses the zoo) called "Levitt Shell". My Sunday school class is having a social there, and we're supposed to take our own picnic-type food to eat. I haven't decided if I want to go.

It's a pretty long drive, and we just got home from there. Plus I'm afraid the parking will be difficult.

It is free, though.

I have been trying to think of something, but I can't. I mean, we have family functions, which are of course free, but an actual EVENT? None of those are really free around here.

The MD Seafood Festival is going on this weekend, and I would like to go to that, but I don't think we will make it. Today is out because we wasted the morning (which was way overcast anyway) and I have to sing at 4:30, and tomorrow Anna has a b-day party for a boy in her class. (which is at a park, which isn't free to enter either!) I doubt we'll make it later in the day. (the seafood fest isn't free though-it is $10/ticket)

Next weekend is the county fair, and I'd like for us to go to that for sure. (it isn't free though-but it is cheap-$5/ticket for adults and both my girls are free)

I think that one of the parks here does do some free concerts in the summer, but again, you have to pay to get into the park itself.

What kind of free things are there to do where you all live?

Oh yes, the zoo!!! I forgot about that-the DC zoo is free. (but you have to ay $20 to park, so technically, it isn't 100% free-unless you live within walking distance, you will pay to get there or you will pay to park there. And you can't even get a free map-they charge for zoo maps too)

That's interesting about paying to get into parks. I don't think there are any parks around here that charge an entrance fee.

Maybe the parks there are better?

$20 to park?! My goodness.

We park free at the zoo with our zoo pass, but it is normally $3 to park.

Not all parks charge, of course.  And you can get an annual pass that is good at mulitple parks in the area too.  The ones that charge have more ammenities, I guess.  One has ice skating in the winter, and concerts and stuff and the other has a working farm area with livestock and you are allowed to go to that, and they all have loads of trails and huge playgrounds and such.  I know the one is almost 300 acres, so obviously there is a lot of grounds upkeep with that.  IHNI how those things compare from region to region.

The free places are not as elaborate.  They have a few smaller trails, a couple of small pavillions, smaller playgrounds, some ball fields, etc.  You standard park stuff.

I guess you get used to things that are around you!  Most things cost money to do here, aside from going to the park (because we never pay to go to the other ones-I mean, my ILs live on a working farm so we don't need to pay for that, lol!).  But it isn't *too* bad, really.  IDT the prices are outlandish.  I think an annual pass for the county parks is $40?  Not much really.

Yeah-they get you with the parking.  The MD zoo is free for parking, but costs to get in, so really it is about the same either way.  And the Aquarium is ridiculously expensive, IMO!!

lmao Apies, you are in sad shape, girlfriend!!!

I am only here for a minute. Bill is trying to get me liquored up, lol.

I'm sorry Matt isn't home-that sucks. Is he away or just out?

Seriously, the $20 is a LOT. But everything seems to be that way around here, kwim? IDK-I think some areas of the country are just lacking in free stuff. Aside from going to the (free) park, the mall or something like that, I can't think of a thing that is free. Even our crummy Children's Museum isn't free!!! (but they need the money, lmao)

I am SOOOOOO sorry your bank account stuff isn't worked out yet. What is the holdup? And don't worry too much-it has been majorly quiet around here, I think.
