an example of coupon savings...

i know there has been a lot of interest in coupon use and what can "really" be saved using them vs. the time it takes to cut/sort/plan.

i thought i would break down my grocery trip yesterday to show you how much can be saved with careful planning and matching coupons to sale items.

every single thing i bought was on sale and i had a coupon. here is what i got:

8 bottles of herbal essence (3 shampoo/1 conditioner/4 styling)
1 package of chinet plates
2 pints of iced tea
3 packages of land o lakes butter w/ olive oil
1 bottle mr. clean liquid cleaner w/febreze
1 bottle (lg size) wishbone dressing
1 box capri sun juice boxes
6 bottles of arm & hammer concentrated cleaner w/bottle
4 packages arm & hammer concentrated cleaner refill
2 packages cinnabon bars
6 tubs of betty crocker frosting
9 boxes of betty crocker cake mix
2 boxes of honey bunches of oats w/strawberries
2 boxes post grape nut flakes

all i used were regular manufacturer coupons. I spent $17 and change and received a $5 coupon good on my next order.

edited b/c i forgot a few things:)

i think that we'd be pretty awesome together.

so now that i've seen an example of how you work, can you tell me how you planned for that?

did you use a spoiler ad to see what was going to be on sale and order coupons online?

yup, for the most part. some i had from random magazine ads/home mailers/etc and the arm & hammer was just something i happened across at the store--there were peelie stickers on every bottle that said "save a dollar now" and by my luck they were on sale for .50--which meant that i made .50 for each i bought which was deducted from the rest of my bill.
