anyone have any experience with the quality of their furniture?

My dh refuses to buy furniture from Ikea. He tells me that we should spend a few extra bucks and get a better quality one.I hate when they have opinions. ;)

hmm.

i think it depends on what you're looking for.

i'm thinking i wouldn't buy my own bedroom furniture there. or something for our family room that is getting a ton of use.

but i would probably buy my kids' bedroom furniture there. or accent pieces.

it's all on display there - why don't you take him and let him check it out in person?

Thanks April!  I am thinking of a sofa from there.  I really want a slipcovered sofa and pb is out of my price range.

Idk...he hates shopping and he especially hates furniture that you have to assemble :giggle  (we don't live near an Ikea but there is a delivery service here that will pick up what you want from Ikea and bring it back).

I agree, the quality isn't the best. I have a friend who has a ton of IKEA furniture and absolutely loves her IKEA sofas. She has two little boys, so the sofas get a lot of abuse, but they are still in good condition.

IKEA furniture will last a while, but because most of the non-upholstered stuff is made from particle board, it gets banged up pretty easily. Mason's dresser is from IKEA, and it is very sturdy, but after 2 moves has some dings. I got a coffee table from there that the paint has worn away on the corners, but it was only $40 I think, so I can repaint it if I want, and not have to worry about the kids destroying an expensive piece.

John HATES IKEA. The quality of a lot of the pieces is obvious when you are assembling them at home, and he gets SO frustrated, LOL.

Thanks Allison!

this makes me think it might be worth it!

Re the coffee table...I also got one that was not the best quality and now it is pretty useless.  But, I had an idea to take an old solid wood desk that are not using and cut the legs off and paint the top with chalkboard paint for our family room.  I think it will look good and be able to take lots of abuse!

I have had a few pieces from Ikea. The quality varies. My dining table was good, but the chairs that came with it were not too sturdy and break easily. Our coffee table is fine and it was a cheap one. It get lots of abuse from the kids and even take them sitting on it. Same for out TV stand.

Now for the dressers we had. We just got rid of them. I believe they were the Malm series. They look nice, but not very sturdy and tip over easy if your floor is the slightest bit uneven. Also, when moving them, they got banged up a little and the frame busted. I was just commenting to my aunt that dressers when we were little were made from solid wood and were so much more sturdy.
