the kids and i are flying to my mom's on tuesday. i'm bringing my laptop for the kids to watch movies, etc, (airtran has free wifi) but i was thinking maybe i could put a movie on my iphone to watch myself? is that possible?
if so, can anyone explain to me how? (please note that i am VERY ipod challenged.
Just go to your itunes acct, go to the itunes store, click on movies, buy a movie (takes a while to load), connect your iphone to the computer, double click on your phone the icon on the left when it appears, choose the movies tab, check the box of the movie you want to load and click the button on the bottom right. I think it says sync or something.

ok, but can i put a movie i already own on there or do i have to buy one?
sorry, we do it all the time i forgot to add that detail.
we also have apple tv. LOVE IT! especially as i can buy my fave US TV series on itunes then watch them on my laptop or our big flatscreen rather than sitting at bert's coputer/desk.
and clara and cecile can watch all their disney movies and tv shows we have on our itunes library - it is so user friendly to navigate and no messy dvds around the house anymore!
but perhaps i am different because i dont get american TV here
bert also went and converted all his "classic" movies from dvd into our itunes library - he has hundreds of movies and we watch them a lot now whereas before they just sat in storage boxes.
if you guys still want more info, i can write a step-by-step tutorial. it def is not rocket science
you need to download handbrake AND a second free app called dvd43.com
first: put the dvd in the computer
2: wait for dvd43 to give you a green smilie face in the system tray (on the bottom right side of the screen) you should not need to do any other action, the dvd43 should "unlock" all the blocks encrypted in the store bought dvd automatically.
3: you open handbrake
4: once handbrake is open, in the upper right corner there is a little window on the side where you can choose what format you want (ie. basic, game console, apple...) to get the apple format, click apple and choose the apple device that you have (depending on version it says iphone, apple tv etc.). once you choose that it automatically sets the settings you require and it downloads. it can take a while for a dvd to download - i am thinking about 30 min or so for each movie length dvd.
5: once it is downloaded on your computer, copy the file into your itunes library and it is done. you can then choose it for your iphone/itouch.
sorry, it sounds a but more complicated than it really is... once you get one, it is easy from there.
