I haven't read one of hers since My Sister's Keeper which was at least 4 years ago so it kept me interested. The ending wasn't really a shocker, but what it did do was make me keep staring at my kids and wonder how any child could turn out that way.
April, do you see bullying that bad at the HS level? I didn't see it when I was teaching, but they were little.

it's not unheard of, but i don't have to deal with it too often.
and i think that a lot of the times, the kids getting bullied tell SOMEONE. i had to intervene at the very beginning of the year last year for a gay kid who was already being targeted in gym class. :(
i do often have kids who i think are a ticking time bomb though. last year there was a kid in my 10th grade class who was a bit "off." he didn't have many friends and his mom was SUCH a helicopter mom. it was ridiculous. anyway, i found out at the end of the year that the previous year, he had made a 'hitlist' with names of specific kids from school. i was SHOCKED to learn that and even more shocked that the school didn't expel him.
I loved this book. It's my favorite Jodi Picoult book so far, and I think I've read 4 of hers. (Plain Truth, Sister's Keeper, 19 Minutes, and Songs of the Humpback Whale)
Now I'll read the other responses before I say more.
